Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewell Winn.
Hi Jewell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My husband, Timothy Winn is the visionary behind Lighthouse on the Lake. After owning and operating a catering business since 1997, Tim expressed a desire to own his own venue with a commercial kitchen. He had interned with the Marriott after graduating from Tennessee State University with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism and was hired as the restaurant, lounge and room service manager. This gave him extensive front of the house experience coupled with his culinary arts training from West Palm Beach Florida prior to attending TSU. We met a developer in Gallatin TN after catering an event at one of his venues and shared the goal of owning our own building. He contacted us six months later and told us about the Lighthouse. Through his generosity and belief in Tim’s vision, the building was leased to us with an option to purchase. We are now the proud owners of Lighthouse on the Lake, an 8,000 square foot multi-level venue situated on beautiful Old Hickory Lake. We are a private membership club with a full bar and menu, and a rental venue that accommodates all types of events; we also host a Sunday Jazz Brunch every 2nd and 4th Sunday as well as a Jazz Jam event the first Tuesday of the month–April through September. Tim serves as the executive chef and provides a diverse menu off site as well through Catering Concepts by Timothy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been smooth. We opened in the middle of COVID which had its share of challenges. Post COVID, we are challenged with finding qualified and loyal team members as well as keeping costs affordable while juggling the high price of food. There was also quite a bit of deferred maintenance that needed addressing as with any building structure.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Tim’s background is food and beverage. He loves to cook and is passionate about every dish he prepares. His specialty is what the client wants. He is well known for his premium tea called Tim’s Southern Tea. It is a brewed tea mixed with several different fruit juices. He doesn’t add sugar to it but the taste is amazing. It is sold in the Nashville International Airport and several local retail outlets. It is also shipped throughout the United States to clients. Tim is most proud of having the opportunity to serve others doing what he loves which is cooking. It’s not every day that a large commercial kitchen and beautiful venue such as the Lighthouse is offered to you. The motto for the business is “It’s Always Better on the Lake”. He stands by this. Intentional food and exceptional customer service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
He doesn’t believe in luck. He walks by faith as we are believers in God. We believe that God has a plan for all of us and that there are seasons in our lives that will change. As believers, we must remain steadfast and trust the plan that God has for us. Through the good times and challenging times–we will count it all joy!
