Story & Lesson Highlights with J. Joy of Hermitage

We recently had the chance to connect with J. Joy and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning J., it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me usually starts with prayer, working out, business and/or personal errands, work on music & business tasks, study, then I usually settle down for the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

What’s up everybody, I’m J.Joy, music producer & CEO of an independent record label, A&G Music Group. Music & entrepreneurship has always been passions of mine.

My brand as a music producer is about embodying the true essence of a record producer with the modern twist. Also adding my persona to further my brand, tell my story, & create connection to the audience & supporters.

A&G Music Group is also about embodying the legendary & greatness of independent labels like Motown, Cash Money, LaFace, No Limit, So So Def, Strange Music, Rap-A-Lot, QC, etc, just name a few, in today’s music industry. We still believe in & do artist development. We are all about building a brand vs just chasing numbers & popularity. A&G Music Group is all about inspiring thru quality music, content, fashion, & lifestyle.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?

My foundation to everything starts with family. My father, mother, & older brother starting with them, then just all my siblings as a whole seeing something in me early as well.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me to lean more on God, patience, how to fight & get thru “storms” in life, mentally stronger, the power of family & support system, etc.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
God, family, respect, my reputation, loyalty

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?

Great question. That I beat the odds & overcame obstacles to reach personal & business goals, while doing it with integrity & being authentic.

Before I go, I want to inform the audience of a few things I’m working on that’s coming down the pipeline for A&G Music Group and myself. Be on the lookout & stay tune for:

* A&G Music Group recently signed & partnered with artist Mindframe.

* Mindframe and myself working on our joint project “Days & Times From I-40 West Minds”. Our single “LIFIN” is out and doing well, our next single “No Shoulda, Coulda, Wouldas” will be dropping soon.

* One of A&G Music Group’s in-house producers, Tyrus D. Rice, will be releasing a beat/instrumental tape soon.

* We will be getting into the sync licensing space.

* A&G merch will be launched & coming in the future.

* I’m finishing up my producer project “All Bets On Me” that will be coming down the pipeline.

* I’m always open & looking for creatives and professionals to sign & add to the label. Also just overall collaborations. Link in the linktree link below.

* I’m nominated for a 2nd Southern Entertainment Award (SEA) award for “Producer Of The Year”. I would appreciate your votes! Voting link in the linktree link below.
