Daily Inspiration: Meet Evan Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Adams.

Hi Evan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The story of our band Pyramia started in 2019 with just myself and two of my old bandmates from Dallas, Texas. However, It wasn’t until late 2022 when I met Rocky Burger and Ellery Smith at college that the band really started to take off. By that point, I had an entire album written and demoed for them to add their magic to. We ended up finding our rhythm section late the following year with Jack Lare and Jake Canapp. We practiced incessantly and went on to record our lead single “Acedia” around February 2024. We sat on the recording for a year as we couldn’t decide on what we liked sonically but by December we finally had a master we liked. I still thought we needed more material to put out since we had been together for so long so we went back to the studio late January of this year to record the b-side “I Hope I’m Not Alone”. Ever since then we’ve been playing shows all over Nashville and are working to get in the studio soon to record our next single!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest struggles we faced, especially starting out as a new, original band, was finding a drummer and a bassist. We tried out multiple people that just never seemed to click or weren’t exactly the most reliable. When we found Jake and Lare we were ecstatic. Our first rehearsal as a full band was so organic and we fell right into place with each other.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I sing, play guitar and write the music and lyrics. That was something that I became accustomed to no longer having a band to write with when I moved here from Texas. Naturally, I had grown very protective over the stuff written during that period of time not having a band. I’ve still assumed most of that work but I’ve grown open to collaborating with the band and listening to the ideas they have. For fresh material that has yet to see any sort of demos or even full band rehearsals Rocky, Ellery, and I love getting together to figure songs out or flesh out songs we’ve already done over and over again. We’re trying to get our sound as massive as possible while still keeping things simple. I’m most proud of our tenacity as a band and willingness to keep going no matter what roadblocks come before us. I have immense gratitude to each and everyone of the members in the band. The sounds that I had been hearing in my head all those years couldn’t have been achieved without them. We stand out from other bands in our sonics. Some of our songs are very dissonant yet catchy. The keys really make everything stand out and come together We wouldn’t be the same with just guitars. Acedia’s instrumental for example was something I described prior to Ellery joining as a city with buildings and streets. With keys added, that’s the city life, taxis, and turmoil. Ellery is our secret ingredient.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is staying true to the music and meaning behind it. I can’t stand some of the stuff that’s being shoved down our throats both in the mainstream and in the local scene. You can look or play anyway you want, but if there’s no feel or intention to it, it’s just processed garbage. Having songs that really mean something and scream a message or feeling is what makes music such a powerful platform. We aim to catch that in each and every one of our songs.
