Today we’d like to introduce you to Demita Northern.
Hi Demita, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is one rooted in music, faith, and Southern roots. I’ve always had a love for music — that feeling you get when a song hits your soul just right. Growing up, I was surrounded by sounds that told stories: blues, gospel, R&B, and that good ol’ Southern Soul that makes you feel every note. That sound stuck with me, and over time, I realized I didn’t just want to listen to it — I wanted to live it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth — but every bump has built my strength, my sound, and my story. As an independent artist, there have been moments of uncertainty, sacrifice, and learning how to do it all myself — from writing and performing to promoting and producing. There were times when doors closed opportunities fell through, or people didn’t quite see the vision. But through it all, I kept my faith, stayed focused, and leaned into my purpose.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a preachers kid my maternal grandmother was a classically trained pianist. I found my love for music from my family influences of gospel, R AND B and Blues. My husband Michael Northern said to me that I could no longer sit on the gift that I was blessed with and that it was time for me to share it with the world so in 2017 I started working on my first musical project with my husband and produced my first EP TITLED BLUE PRINT OF A DIVA which was released in 2019. I won my first award as live band musician of the year at the SEA SOUTHERN ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS IN 2025 What sets me apart is my ability to connect — not just through my voice, but through my spirit. Every performance is an experience, every song a reflection of real life wrapped in rhythm and truth. I’m proud to represent the heart of Southern Soul with a modern-day twist — what I call Southern Soul Diva Energy.

My husband Michael Northern as he is not only my husband but my manager songwriter partner producer and talented musician also our children and my family and friends for believing in and supporting me
