Meet David McMillan of Green Hills, 37215

Today we’d like to introduce you to David McMillan.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Brother’s death when I was 14. Sister 6 years younger born with downsyndrome. 2 divorces, sued for malpractice, wife of 40 years diagnosed with heart failure, had heart procedure, recently moved from our home of 40 years to a condo apartment.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most Proud of: My marriage to Marietta Shipley for 40 years, My theory of Sense Of Community that is a foundational theory for Community Psychology, my 2 books, Create your Own Love Story ( a book applying my SOC theory to couples) and Emoyional Rituals and my new book that is with a publisher about Family Therapy, Systems Theory, Complexity Theory and Natural Law, My founding of NPI, My 49 year career as a practicing psychologist, my 15 years as an adjunct professor at Fisk teaching psychotherapy,.
I’m an active participant in therapy with my clients. I share my thoughts, feelings and opinions. Generally therapists are taught not to do that. I try to make therapy fun. I use metaphors and immediacy in my work. I often work with families invoved with the courts and I help parents and children reconcile.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
AI is a big thing. Iam building a closed in Bot. It contains only what I have written. Soon people will be able to acess my bot,”David’s Bot” and talk with aversion of me. I’m not sure where this will go. Already I have pilot tested it and The Bot seemed to me to be a better therapist than I am.
I woory about psychology becoming a bastion for Political Correctness and for pretense and evidence based practice.
