Daily Inspiration: Meet Dominique Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Brown.

Hi Dominique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am Dominique Brown a wife, a mother, a teacher, and a creative entrepreneur who believes in purpose, resilience, and trusting the path even when it shifts. I am also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, where I continue to live out the principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood in everything I do from my classroom to my businesses to my community.

I originally went to college for education, because I always saw myself working with children. Life happened, things changed, and I briefly switched my major to business. At the time I felt like I was stepping away from my original dream, but now I realize that business prepared me for everything I’m building today my brands, my salon, and my entrepreneurial mindset.

My journey back into education started when I became a Special Education Educational Assistant. That role changed everything. Working one-on-one with students showed me the impact of patience, advocacy, and representation. It reignited the passion I had for teaching, so I applied for my Master’s in Education and got accepted into a fully funded Teacher Residency (TR) program, which paid for my degree.

During my residency, I spent my first year working under an amazing mentor teacher who helped shape me into the educator I am today. By my second year, I had my own second-grade classroom, and that’s when the Brownie Squad was born a classroom family rooted in joy, belonging, high expectations, and love. I show up as the teacher I needed when I was younger creative, energetic, relational, and invested in every child.

I am also a wife, and my marriage has grounded me with support and partnership. My husband has been my biggest cheerleader through school, teaching, business ventures, mom life, and everything in between.

Motherhood is a huge part of my story. My son, Aniyus, is autistic, and navigating his therapies, appointments, and early intervention while working full-time as a teacher taught me strength, patience, and advocacy on an entirely new level. He inspires everything I do his uniqueness is his superpower, not a limitation.

I truly believe God placed me in the world of education on purpose. The patience, compassion, and advocacy I learned from working with students prepared me to be exactly what my autistic son needs calm, loving, understanding, and present.

My story isn’t traditional, but it’s intentional. I am proof that detours don’t cancel destiny.

I’m a wife, a mom, a teacher, a businesswoman, a creator and a woman who refuses to give up on herself, no matter how many times the path shifts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road.

While completing my Master’s in Education through a Teacher Residency program, I was working full-time in the classroom during the day and taking graduate classes at night. I was also a wife, a mom, and a hairstylist trying to pour into my students, my family, and my clients without losing myself in the process.

There were days I would leave a long day at school, go straight into doing hair so I could help support my household, and then stay up late finishing assignments for grad school. I was learning how to be a teacher, a wife, and a mother all at the same time with no manual, no sleep, and no breaks.

Balancing everything required discipline, sacrifice, and a lot of prayer. I had moments where I doubted myself, moments where I felt stretched thin, and moments where I questioned if I could handle it all.

But even in the hardest moments, God kept making a way.

Every challenge taught me patience, resilience, and strength. They didn’t break me they built me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a 2nd grade teacher known for building classroom culture, relationships, and joy. My students don’t just enter a classroom they join a family called the Brownie Squad. I specialize in creating a learning environment where every child feels seen, valued, and capable of success, no matter their background or academic level.

What sets me apart as an educator is that I lead with connection first. I believe students learn best from someone they trust, so I invest in relationships before I invest in instruction. My classroom is filled with music, hands-on learning, celebrations, and high expectations wrapped in love. I am proud that my students leave my classroom not just knowing standards, but knowing confidence, self-worth, and the importance of believing in themselves.

I am also a wife, a mother, and a hairstylist balancing all three while pouring into education. Creativity always finds a way into my work, whether it’s through classroom themes, parent engagement, or the experiences I create for my students.

Outside the classroom, I bring teacher laughter, relatable moments, and positive energy to social media as

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of my biggest professional inspirations is Ron Clark and the Ron Clark Academy. His philosophy of building relationships, setting high expectations, and bringing energy and movement into the classroom has shaped my approach as an educator.

What makes it even more meaningful is that my husband introduced me to Ron Clark’s work. He’s always sending me videos, ideas, and clips that show new ways to engage students. He believes in my students just as much as I do, and he constantly encourages me to try new strategies in my classroom. We brainstorm together, and a lot of the excitement and engagement that happens in the Brownie Squad comes from those late-night idea sessions.
