Today we’d like to introduce you to Krissy Jo.
Hi Krissy Jo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Damon and I met at an open mic night in late November 2023. Damon listened to a few of my originals, and said that we should form something special to share them… a ten hour long practice later to learn music for a 3 hour long set and voila- Appalachian Honey was born!
From then on our schedule blossomed into a very bountiful few years of shows. We were blessed with amazing opportunities like opening up for incredible artists Gaelic Storm and Tracy Byrd.
This past year we were nominated and voted first place in Pittsburgh City Paper’s Best Country Duo/Artist!
We’ve been featured on 97.7 The Grass Roots Show, Jazz’s Rockin’ Roadshow, Music from the 412 and the Pennsylvania Rock Show. Special thanks to Utah, Bob, Jazz, & Bill for all of the love and support.
Amazing opportunity’s have landed at our feet- like this interview, and we can’t express how honored we are! Blessed is most certainly an understatement
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been smooth sailing as we approach the end of our second year together. It has been a magnificent journey… we’re looking forward to what’s in store on this crazy beautiful road ahead of us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I’m actually a Registered Nurse, in a local Emergency Department. I use music to help my patients and their families during some of their sickest hours. If you’re walking the halls at IRMC and hear someone singing Amazing Grace- you can be sure that I’m singing to provide comfort and care during someone’s unexpected final moments… I am honored to have been nominated for a nursing excellence award because of this. I truly feel like I was born to be a nurse, raised by the best one- my mother.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Stay true to yourself and your values. We love what we do with our entire hearts, and only wish to share that with the world. We’re not here to make money, we’re here to tell our stories to anyone who wants to heart them.
