Today we’d like to introduce you to Dyondre Thomas.
Hi Dyondre, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, creativity played an important role in my life. I was attracted to creating mental simulation through the audio or visual arts. First, I began with the visual arts, drawing, painting, or taking photographs. I had some of my pieces put in museums. However, when I entered my early teenage years, I started working in the musical arts. I began playing in a band and creating my own music. This set me on the path that I am on now. The connection between music and memory has always fascinated me and motivated me to create lasting memories for people through my music. Progressing through high school and college, I was able to use my love for music as a way to connect with others. I am a music producer, a DJ, and a creative director. I work closely with OneofDem Productions as their creative director. I am in a band with some of my other friends called the Earthtones as the producer, DJ, bass player, and drummer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been an easy road. I struggled with self-confidence and fear. Both of these things keep me from taking advantage of opportunities that were presented to me. I have goals of stepping out of my comfort zone, but my self-doubt and intimidation that I placed on myself keep me from fulfilling the role that I set for myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Hip Hop, R&B, and Afrobeat music production. Artists that inspire me are Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell Williams, SZA, Tems, Tyla, and Bryson Tiller. I am known as a DJ. I have DJed and produced for fashion shows, graduation parties, poetry parties, YouTube videos, and Artist Showcases. Local Artist with whom I have released music with Carma, R&B and Soul Artist from Nashville, (Love, Carma EP), and BReal, Contemporary R&B Artist from Memphis (The Way Love Goes). The combination of styles and effort that I put into my work is what I am known for. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish with OneofDem Productions, which is the event company that I have with my college friends. I am also proud of the work that I have done with Carma and BReal.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson that I have learned is not to be afraid to try something new, even if you fail. I think if I had taken a chance with some of the opportunities that I have to perform and take center stage, I would have learned way more then not taking that chance.
