Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymon Ramsey.
Hi Raymon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
So from the age of 18 until I was 32 I had 12 DUIs and what comes with 12 DUIs over the course of that time I spent about seven calendar years behind Bars just for the DUI offenses and probation violations. So pretty much from 18 to 32 homeless as well bouncing around to people’s couches and my dad‘s and things of that nature. At 32 I robbed Walgreens in Knoxville Tennessee. I received an eight year sentence at 100%. I spent six years, seven months in prison. But while in prison, they had a Barber program I got into the Barber school, that started in 2011. Of course there is a whole prison story on how I cut with beard trimmers for 3yrs to hone my skills in the units. I received my Barbara license in 2014 and I got out in 2017 fully licensed as a barber. Circumstances were presented, and I ended up in Columbia, Tennessee, so that’s where I got out and came to. I started working beside, my now business partner Rory Ghant , June 17th 2017. We opened Southern Edge Barbers in 2020. As I cut hair, I start to think that getting my real estate license would be a good thing as well so I did two years ago and it has been a good thing as well. Anyway, there’s way more details, but that’s the gist of it. We
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, we’ve opened up during Covid so we closed down for five weeks but my life depended on barbering working, so yes I just worked work work build my clientele we have had hiccups here and there, but I just stayed at the shop and took anybody that walked in now I’m booked out every single day in advance.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What’s this part is my willingness to be in the barbershop and know that every client that sits in my chair is my boss. I do mostly everything pretty decent. I’m really good at fades, straight razor shaves, beard trims, mullets, pomp’s, modern crop taper fades, hawks, flattops and all your everyday barber needs.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Consistent persistence!
