Kate Tran shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Kate, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Most people, when they think of video production, think of us “building” or “editing” video content, and maybe some strategies that go with that. While that is true, I think the thing I am most proud to help build is other business owner’s confidence (especially women) in themselves & their abilities & help stretch their mind in what they believe they are capable of. High achievers expect so much from themselves, and often times are very hard on themselves in the filming process. To be the peaceful, encouraging guide that helps them push through to a deep feeling of accomplishment, and then seeing how those videos help build their company & brand, that is without a doubt one of my favorite things to do.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! My name is Kate Tran and I own a video production company in Nashville, TN. We specialize in creating strategic, memorable video content that brings each brand to life through creativity, collaboration, and a people-first process that’s always improving. I have personally been in the industry for about 12 years but had my own company for about 3 years. We have worked with big & well known brands like CMA, Make-A-Wish, LTK, (and more!) but love to work with growing businesses trying to establish their brand through video! It has truly been such an honor to work with so many incredible clients & I could not be more grateful.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Of all my relationships, I have to say that my relationship with God has been the one that has shaped me the most. It is the relationship that always recenters me when things may not happen “as fast as I’d like”, when I’ve felt overwhelmed, doubted my capabilities, or when I have been too hard on myself for not getting it right the first time. Owning a business has so many ups and downs, and if I did not root myself in the belief that who I truly am & how I treat others matters more than one video’s performance, it would be very easy to be caught up in the chaos. It has helped me truly define what I believe “success” looks like instead of chasing someone else’s version of success, just because it looked good on social media. My second would most definitely be my husband. He has been a constant encourager for me & believed in me more than I have believed in myself. I couldn’t have gotten to this point without him.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Wow, this is such a great question. I think suffering or “failure” is truly one of the best teachers you could have. In business, you will fail, and fail often, that’s just part of it, but the truth is that it isn’t the end… it’s the beginning of the solution. When you chose to see your failure as an “opportunity,” and you learn to get back up quicker, you become faster and more skilled than most because too many people are not even willing too try.. Now, I know, easier said than done, but I have learned to love failure because from that comes tremendous growth.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
This is a tough one, and it may sound very sentimental, but I truly believe that every person should be treated with respect and kindness. We are in a very busy, fast-paced world and people often are so focused on what they want, that they miss the person in front of them that is struggling or misinterpret it. I have talked to and encouraged so many perfect strangers by allowing them to talk and share. The relief that I see on their faces, the support they feel, even in those 5 minute conversations, makes it worth it every time.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I would hope that they would remember me as someone who continually strived to keep growing & learning in all areas of my life. It’s very easy to fall into comfort or complacency when things get hard, but I hope my kids (& my family & friends) remember me as someone who never thought I had “arrived”, but who always saw there was more that could be done & more to give. I hope I inspire those around me to give without limit & to continue to grow, even under hard circumstances. There’s a quote that’s a screen saver on my phone that says “I would die for my child. I believe you, but would you live for them? Would you cut out distractions, get healthy? Would you lead them more intentionally? You’d only have to die once. But you live every day. Do that.” I hope that’s what they’d remember about me. Someone who lived for them & strived to be the best version of myself for them, & hopefully, someone who inspires them that they can do the same.
