Meet Hannah Corn of Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Corn.

Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Redemption Ranch started as a mission and desire when I was young. I wanted to be able to help people using horses as a tool for hope and healing during tough seasons of life. For 8 years for this dream and fully planned organization layed dormant in my heart until God felt like it was the right time. Redemption Ranch is now about to start it’s 6th year being opened and serving youth struggling with their mental health using equine and agriculture assisted learning to equip, sustain, love, encourage, and help people find hope and healing. When we originally opened I thought we would just serve a few kids here and there in our spare time with the horses we had, but the need in our community was far greater that what I could sustain alone. We quickly started looking for volunteers, we adopted more horses, and our community has been so incredibly supportive of the work we do and how we serve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For years I always thought fundraising could never be topped as the hardest part of running a non profit. I always dreaded it (some days I still do), because our program is completely free to all the families who attend. Honestly, the biggest challenge we have always faced is having enough volunteers. The Lord always provides and sometimes we have to cut back a little bit to make sure we have enough volunteers for the amount of youth that we serve, but we always make it. It’s so hard with the hustle of this generation for adults and even our participants to make a commitment even for 12 weeks. There are so many things pulling everyone different directions, even myself, so it’s really hard. We are incredibly thankful for our volunteers, we truly wouldn’t be able to operate without them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Redemption Ranch is known for meeting kids wherever they are in life. It looks so different for everyone who steps foot at the ranch. Bullying, anxiety, eating disorders, self harm, grief, the list goes on and on. Our passion is to be able to meet kids wherever that is, share the light and hope found in Jesus with them, encourage them and love them through hard times. The horses and garden are an amazing tool, that helps us bridge the gap, be a mirror, and build communication and confidence.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the biggest things I think I have learned is that no time can be rushed. Also sharing your journey of what God has brought you through is a beautiful piece of connecting with youth.
