Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Styles.
Hi Penny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved to the United States from the UK, having an international background, I simultaneously developed production contacts in Australia and the US. Coupling my creative skills with a strong financial background (with The London Stock Exchange & NM Rothschild Bankers). I went on to produce and line produce a plethora of Film, Television and commercial projects which were award winning in several Industry Awards, Film Festivals & Tellys.
I ran a total of two advertising agencies (one in London, one in Tennessee) and built Regional, National & International campaigns in each arena for commercials in print, live action and 3d animation.
In Los Angeles, I engaged in and produced well over 100 productions including supervising animations, both in the studio network and independent arena, my crews ran from 5 to 75. Although, as a producer and that I was the eventual leader (so the buck stopped with me), I engaged my key crew in the creative process. …… Always in the spirit of cooperation, we jointly overcame production challenges and seamlessly delivered professional content. I recruited crews comprising of accomplished international industry professionals, who loved to work with me, it was truly a gift to work with them but I also included newcomers to learn this trade from the ground up. My goal was always to collaborate, provide opportunity and inspire.
My network and reputation grew and I never lacked for work: In California, I received special recognition from the California State Senate (Movie Production Award), California Legislature Assembly and a Special Congressional Award/ United States Congress for my service to the community through Film Production.
While working an active producer in California, I taught as an adjunct film professor for 8 years. At that time, as there wasn’t a film program in existence for the skills they requested me to teach, so I developed the curriculum to educate and encourage valuable and practical college classes on Film Production and Directing. My intended goal was to teach the importance of respect for the art, capability, quality and instill originality for my students and future filmmakers. My classes became very popular and attendance grew to beyond capacity.
During this time I founded NuFangled TV. My purpose then, was to create and offer distribution to productions which were both thoughtful and thought provoking.
Setting myself as an example I directed, produced & edited an expose documentary on Child Protective Services and its impact on our most vulnerable asset. Children. A very tough subject with so many repercussions & casualties. As a result, ‘The Protectors’ documentary was invited to be first aired before a symposium of Judges at the famous Hollywood Kodak Theatre, by Christopher Wu, then Supervising Attorney for the Judicial Council of California. It made me very unpopular with the attending CPS, & was threatened, however subsequently my work was entered into evidence in a Special Congressional Hearing in California and became part of a movement for change.
In moving to Nashville, I continued my work, developing Film, TV for both in and out of State. I met many celebrities and my (then to be) amazing husband: beloved former long term State Legislator & lobbyist, Steve Bivens. Steve introduced me to many notable politicians both socially and as a part of encouraging production in Tennessee. We married in the Senate Chambers.
He inspired ‘Wounded Glory’ our next NuFangled series production. Devastatingly, Steve recently passed in June ’25 from a brutal, relentless cancer – but before he did, he got to see a teaser built especially for this passion of his. We created his vision in AI Steve was thrilled! Seeing how powerful and available the medium of AI made his dream come true, hooked me on its possibilities.
During my marriage with Steve, I met Clyde C. Harris who’s energy and passion for production & life met ours. We soon absorbed him into our family and was much loved by Steve.
After Steve’s passing, his powerful legacy remained – this is when Clyde and I discussed how to move forward. We shared our excitement with the fast growing format of AI in film and determined to join forces under my old concept of NuFangled TV and decided on the path to take utilizing our strengths and vision. For me, creativity is a way of working through my grief, so these next steps made perfect sense.
Out of this devastation and loss, grown in a few short months, the Nu vision we jointly possess developed into NuFangledTV.com. The fruition of its vast potential to bring a FREE platform of curated productions and music to one location: Nu Tube Network.
We have worked tirelessly to craft this website/platform/network and visuals that reflect our creativity & verve. Aligning both of our original IP’s to promote and encourage other producers to join with us to submit their content to be streamed – for FREE – on the NuFangled /NuTube platform. In the spirit of expansion, we have aligned with experienced Film and TV International Sales Professionals and a seasoned Nationally published expert in Music, to join us on our NuFangled platform. This will facilitate gaining recognition to the independent world of production and thrust these content producers into their own joint, playing field. We are so proud of our ever-growing platform and company.
This part of our journey has only just begun and is already taking us to places we didn’t ever imagine.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
What seemed to be the largest struggle was the challenge of building this vision on zero budget. It certainly encouraged our resourcefulness. Consistently, each and every “NO” has immediately propelled us into action for solving these problems. We heard a lot of negatives: “couldn’t be done”, “sorry can’t do that”, “it will cost a lot of money”, “you’ll be frowned upon”. These just gave us the juice to discover solutions – remain focused – dig a little deeper – creatively bootstrap. Especially as producing is one of the key skills required for problem solving – after my many years in production, it’s 2nd nature.
My partner Clyde and I just have this energy and attitude in life and in our partnership. We both support each other and believe what we do should be fun, that we enjoy our work & create it to the highest standards.
Building each other up and trust is the key to surmounting struggles before they even start. We know there are solutions we have yet to discover, this is why we can travel so fast and like minded creatives want to join us.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
High School! Coming up with all kinds of tricks to alleviate my boredom. School was the one place I could muster a team of ‘recalcitrant’s’ to go along with my harebrained ideas. My leadership skills were well noted by my teachers & house heads – that they promoted me to House Leader. They told me they couldn’t promote me to Head Girl, because my ideas “weren’t always the best” (aka: I was a bad influence). We got in trouble, but had so much fun …. Foundation for the future!
