Today we’d like to introduce you to Moonshine Mollys.
Hi Moonshine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Moonshine Mollys began without expectation — a bluegrass project shared with a couple of friends, built on harmony, acoustic instruments, and the simple joy of playing together. It wasn’t meant to be a career path. It was community, connection, and a place to belong. When one original member stepped away, instead of slowing down, the project gained momentum. We leaned in, played more shows, and started to realize this music wanted to grow.
That growth carried us into nearly eight years as a working cover band. We played everywhere — bars, festivals, community halls — learning how to hold a room and how to trust each other on stage. Those years shaped us. Singing night after night taught us instinct, blend, and timing. We weren’t writing our own songs yet, but we were building the foundation that would later define our sound.
Then the pandemic hit, and everything stopped.
When live music disappeared, so did the structure we had built our lives around. With no shows to prepare for and no crowds to lean on, we were forced into a pause that felt both terrifying and clarifying. On the other side of that stillness, Moonshine Mollys didn’t return as a full band. What emerged instead was the two of us stripped back, focused, and ready to start again.
Becoming a duo wasn’t planned. It revealed itself when everything else fell away.
Our connection started long before that moment. Cassandra has always loved singing, even while struggling with the vulnerability of being on stage. Breanna never planned to be a singer at all — her dream was hair, not music — but her voice had a way of showing up whether she asked for it or not. We each decided, separately, to take vocal lessons for our own reasons years before Breanna joined Moonshine Mollys. This was the connection that brought us together.
What began as individual work turned into a shared discovery. As we learned our voices, we realized how naturally they fit together. That foundation — built on trust, patience, and listening became the core of Moonshine Mollys’ sound. Close harmonies, shared lead vocals, and a sense of balance that feels effortless because it’s earned.
Since re-emerging post-pandemic as a duo, Moonshine Mollys has released five singles and an EP, marking our first true chapter of original music. These songs reflect everything we’ve lived through — the early friendships, the grind of cover-band years, the silence of the pandemic, and the clarity that came from starting over with intention. The writing is honest, grounded, and rooted in connection — to place, to people, and to each other.
Moonshine Mollys isn’t about reinvention for the sake of it. It’s about evolution. It’s about choosing to keep going when it would have been easier to stop. When the world went quiet, we listened and finally heard who we were meant to be.
This is Moonshine Mollys now.
And this chapter is just getting started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Over time, Moonshine Mollys has moved through changes in team members while life continued to unfold around the music. Families grew, priorities shifted, and we learned quickly that making space for art while living full lives requires flexibility and care.
Along the way, growth became personal as well as musical. Cassandra had to rethink how she used her voice — learning to sing and even speak differently to ensure longevity. It was a quiet, demanding process that reshaped her confidence and strengthened her connection to performance. Breanna’s path was one of steady expansion, growing into her voice with intention and trust, discovering strength in a role she never originally set out to claim.
These experiences have shaped the project in subtle but lasting ways. What remains is a deeper sense of purpose with music built not just on sound, but on patience, resilience, and the choice to keep going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are Moonshine Mollys, a duo focused on creating music that connects people through story and feeling. Our work is rooted in collaboration, exploration, and capturing moments that are both personal and universal. We specialize in writing songs that balance emotion with accessibility, music that listeners can relate to while still being unexpected and engaging.
What we’re most proud of is how our music reflects honesty and growth, and how we’ve built something that feels truly ours. We must say that we were extremely proud to have received Silver for International Duo with the ISSA. What sets us apart is our commitment to nurturing every song from idea to performance, blending creativity with intention to make each piece resonate.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success isn’t just about numbers, awards, or recognition. We believe t’s about growth, impact, and staying true to yourself. Be ok with failing. You can not be successful without failing. It’s the quiet moments when you feel proud of what you’ve created, the connections you make along the way, and the resilience you show in facing challenges. True success is measured not by comparison to others, but by how fully you pursue your vision and how much joy and meaning your work brings to yourself and those around you. Lastly, with our new song, Local, we are showing our commitment to our community. We feel most successful when we can help our community grow and have like minded people working together.
