Today we’d like to introduce you to Victorlia Philalack.
Hi Victorlia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a young single mom at the time I dived into this industry. I did the norm of graduating high school and then jumping into a career college to get into the healthcare industry to find a job that could make ends meet for my oldest and I at the age of 19. I was quickly picked up by a healthcare company before getting a job at another major healthcare company at 22. We were assisting and managing their back office for multiple facilities across the country but on top of all of that, I did small gigs dabbling in makeup before finding my way into lash artistry. circa 2017. Phew….if you know, you know how the industry was back then. It was a struggle since it was so new at the time but I stuck it out. I juggled both a full-time job in healthcare informatics and lashing after hours. Fast forward to 2018, I had my second son and I just knew that something had to give putting in the late hours.
I was mentally and physically exhausted to say the least. I even struggled with PPD during that time to the point of seeking help. I knew in my heart, there was more for me. I took the leap after turning 28 and took a tour of a beauty school that had an esthetics program. I went in with zero expectations and left with contracts signed, FAFSA forms completed, fees paid and a class date. I showed up at home with folders in tow and news that I just enrolled in school, completely shifting my home and work life. Pandemic hits right smack dab in the middle of getting my hours and what a time that was. It honestly pushed me more to really wanting to pursue this career. I was lucky enough to be working with such an amazing management team at the healthcare company I was at, at the time. Constantly adjusting my schedule so that I could get as many hours as possible to complete what should have been an 8-month program that turned into a year due to the pandemic. I had an amazing instructor who opened my eyes to more than lashing and began a deep dive into skin. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t think I’d be where I am now. I finally graduated December of 2020 and put my 2 weeks’ notice in after signing my contract for my suite home inside a dental office. Left the health informatics industry of 10 years which helped build a path into this career. That jump was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. I was happier. I was at ease and I finally was getting to do something I truly grew a love for.
Opened up my studio in March of 2021 and have never looked back. This truly dug me out of something mentally and saved me. I can’t think of seeing myself doing anything else but help each and every one of my clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was honestly a nervous wreck when I first started. I left an industry of 10 years and did well in that position for so long, I really thought I was crazy to leave something so stable. I had very little business knowledge and went down a rabbit hole and deep dive of everything on how to start a business. It was a lot of trial and error. Between webinars, sifting through forums, articles and taking additional business courses to really understand what I was getting myself into. I changed my business name twice in the span of about 3 years. It was all worth it in the end though once I put the pieces together and I luckily had great mentors and a support system with this transition.
The 2020 Pandemic also didn’t make things easier as it also took a toll on my physical health, even had to be rushed to the hospital because I struggled with debilitating migraines for 2-3 days straight.
I also struggled pretty bad mentally as I had been through quite a lot before personally in the early days. Therapy and healing had to be done to get to where I am now. I’ve been a huge advocate for mental health and is also something I incorporate into my facials. I’m intentional with every session with my clients. From the set up to the music being played, down to the massage and ways I treat each skin concern.

I am a mother of two boys – one in high school and another in elementary. Some things I enjoy outside of running my business is trying out new restaurants with my family, watch Kdramas, tryout new recipes and find me at the ball park watching my oldest one play. I love to teach and mentor others in this industry. I’ve taught small group continuing education on lashes and facials that I provide in my studio. I love to travel and hope to do more international trips soon. I love a good, hot cup of coffee. I am also a part of the advisory board for Agape’ Institute of Esthiology based out of Franklin, TN.
