Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynn Smith.
Hi Wynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For the most part,I am a self-taught artist. I nibbled at a Fine Art degree over the years which I am sure expanded my knowledge of color and design. And I also grab up any classes that I can find that can elevate and complete my ideas. I have also worked as a hairstylist and supported myself and my family for eons. And I think that craft has delivered a certain aspect of expectation,,creativity and hardwork that influences my desire to make art.
I grew up in a house with stained glass and I have always been drawn to its magic.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest obstacle is financial. I have a creative successful career in the world of cutting and coloring hair. So it is hard to have the faith that my “other” art can be as successful and support me.Selling art is hardwork.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been drawn to the reuse of salvaged and broken treasure. This affinity has led me towards dressing rusty forgotten history in glass or deconstructing ephemera and bringing a new meaning and message to life again. Each piece seems to make itself ,which in turn becomes one of a kind and never before. No one is making what I make. I can’t even remake what I make!!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how beautiful and lush Nashville is.. And I also love how we have every season for about the same amount of time.
i wish there were more smaller art gallery/ stores.
