Community Highlights: Meet Peyton Soelberg of Studio Haus Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peyton Soelberg.

Peyton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a small suburbia town in southern Arizona. After high school, I remember feeling pretty anxious to get out into the world. The sky never felt like my limit, but without financial assistance or scholarships, I knew it was always going to be up to me. I started small; but my dreams were always big.

The spectrum of work I pursued was wide—healthcare, photography, retail, marketing. I found I loved fashion, specifically fashion photography, styling and creative directing. I was scared to make a career of it, so I kept trying other options, safer options. I was good at helping people.

I eventually graduated college with a degree in Occupational Therapy. A great job and a solid career path. As I began working, I soon found myself missing photography, fashion and artistic expression in general. My camera had long since been sold, but my ambition and entrepreneurial ideas had returned.

I immediately went to my husband and told him my idea. I did the research, I met with local photographers. I kept saying I wasn’t going to do it unless we found the perfect space. Well, almost without trying, we did and we started planning and building Nashville’s newest photography studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most small business owners, I remember wondering, at the beginning, how we would make it work logistically and financially. Ironically, I never doubted the idea or the design. That was always going to work. It was very much “create the thing you wish existed” and so that’s what drove me. There was no obstacle too big, no problem we couldn’t solve. It was tough – blood, sweat and tears, the whole ordeal! However, in a sort of masochistic way I sort of loved the challenge. It drove me because I knew what I was building.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Studio Haus Nashville?
Studio Haus is a modern, creative and photography space. We wanted to create a space that did it all. Natural lighting, professional studio lighting. Dynamic and versatile backdrops. Modern, scheek and trendy furniture. Themed quarterly backdrop installations. We’ve hosted top name photographers, models, influencers and content creators. As marketing and branding trends frequently change, the studio often reflects those trends. People have said, “it’s like walking in and having my Pinterest board come to life!”

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
As an already highly motivated and driven person it isn’t about getting myself to do the work, but making sure I’m doing it the right or best way. The book the “E-Myth” has helped me trust myself as an entrepreneur and not just the hardest working employee of my business. It helped me realize when and where I’ve needed help. Something I don’t easily ask for.
