Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Derr.
Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Originally from Ohio, I came to Nashville to attend Lipscomb University. Upon graduation I became a teacher and I was a teacher for 22 years. Life threw some changes at my family and I found another path and in 2023 started my own inspection business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is not a smooth road…ever. I loved teaching but the obstacles from all sides led me to consider a better path for me and my family. I started putting all the pieces in places while I finished my teaching career and Mighty Fine Inspections was born. I worked hard to get all the proper licensing and endorsements needed to begin inspecting and opening my own business. I was very fortunate to have many connections with potential business associates through my years of teaching in the community. I am very grateful for those who started working with me from day one. However, finding people to give me, a new business, a chance was very challenging and is still a challenge in the business world. Working with new people and gaining business relationships is ever challenging.
We’ve been impressed with Mighty Fine Inspections, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a home inspection business. I am the owner and inspector. I have many endorsements and certifications. I specialize in real estate transaction inspections, 11 month, new home, log home, mobile home, roofs, foundations, pools. With my partners I offer wood destroying organism, radon, septic/sewer scope, and mold inspections.
I am a small business that provides the personal touch of being the inspector on site and the person you talk to when you call. Why should people pick me? I inspect a house as if I were buying it for my own family. Would I want to know about the items of the house that I find? Would I call out items in an inspection that my aging parents need to know about to safely navigate a home?
What matters most to you?
Living my life daily for the calling of Christ is what matters most. That takes many forms from personal to business. Providing for my family the best way I can is the reason I do the best I can in my business. For my business to grow and succeed, I do my best for my clients with each inspection. I want to leave a legacy in my life, personal and business, that is one in which people know I cared and did my best.
