Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jaime Loeffel.
Hi Dr. Jaime, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I attended physical therapy school in the late 1990s when pelvic health and the pelvic floor were not part of the curriculum. My interest in pelvic health began after my first pregnancy in 2005 and grew after my second, as I recognized how limited the overall understanding of the hips and pelvis was among many physical therapists, including myself at the time.
I continued to encounter patient after patient with significant pelvic health issues in general rehabilitation, and I burdened that there were not enough knowledgeable providers to help this patient population.
In 2017, I completed a year-long pelvic health certification with extensive coursework and hands-on lab training. I then spent five years treating only pelvic health patients before founding Brentwood Pelvic Health.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The latest struggle has been the accumulation of stress from accepting insurance. I had decided to try a hybrid model of mostly cash pay while accepting three insurance plans. One benefit of accepting insurance is that the sheer number of clients can help hone your skills. Working through each individual complaints, learning style, and mental blocks can force you to adapt and push you to think through other ways of achieving the needed result. The cuts in reimbursement, the denials and the added stress made accepting insurance unsustainable long term.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an orthopelvic specialist, meaning I specialize in orthopedic issues and anything pertaining to the hip and pelvis. I am most well known for treating complicated hip and pelvic pain. I am most proud that I am able to offer a whole body approach to dysfunction. What sets me apart from others is my ability to zoom in and out in on an issue, to think outside the box and to see other areas of the body which are likely contributing to the main complaint.
