Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Rice.
Hi Katie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been a collector of objects and stories. I grew up thrifting and going to garage sales, drawn to pieces that felt like they had a life before me. I studied graphic design in London, where my eye for composition and storytelling really sharpened and began collecting furniture that had been abandoned on the street and restoring them piece by piece. I was drawn to the idea that something discarded could still be beautifu; it just needed care, attention, and a new perspective. Somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t just flipping furniture– I was building a point of view. That perspective grew into House of Yore: a space where vintage pieces are collected with care and styled with soul.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s a romantic side to vintage, but the reality includes heavy lifting, tight margins, risk, and a lot of trial and error. There were moments when I questioned whether the vision would translate the way I imagined. But I’ve learned that friction refines you, and every misstep helped me better understand what House of Yore is meant to be.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about House of Yore?
House of Yore is a curated vintage interiors brand built around the idea that objects carry stories. We source and restore vintage and mid-century furniture and décor that feel soulful, timeless, and a little unexpected.
What sets us apart is intention. I’m not just looking for “old” things, I’m looking for pieces with character, beautiful lines, and a presence that can anchor a space. My background in graphic design shapes how I edit and style everything, so it’s always about balance and feeling, not just filling a room.
At its core, House of Yore is about helping people create homes that feel personal and layered rather than mass-produced. Every object we carry has had a life before — and we love helping it begin its next chapter.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’d say instinct. In vintage, you can’t overthink every decision. You have to trust your eye, your gut, and your understanding of what feels special.
