Today we’d like to introduce you to Gursharan Singh.
Hi Gursharan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Sarabhas Creamery was founded by me and my wife with a simple mission to bring authentic Indian-style ice cream and handcrafted chai into a modern café experience in the U.S. What began as a passion for traditional flavors like saffron, pistachio, cardamom, and rose has grown into one of Nashville’s most loved dessert destinations.
We make our ice creams in-house using real ingredients and traditional techniques, blending heritage flavors with a contemporary café atmosphere. Over the years, Sarabhas Creamery has been recognized among the top ice cream parlors in Tennessee and has built a loyal community of customers who come not just for dessert, but for the experience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were moments of doubt, introducing unfamiliar traditional flavors, building everything from scratch, and working long days just to make sure every scoop and every cup of chai met our standards. Being in an upstairs location brought its own challenges, and growth often required patience and faith.
But every struggle reminded us why we started. Sarabhas Creamery isn’t just a business, it’s a piece of our culture, our memories, and our belief that food brings people together. The challenges shaped us, strengthened us, and made every success feel deeply earned.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sarabhas Creamery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Sarabhas Creamery is an Indian inspired ice cream and chai café that specializes in small-batch, handcrafted ice creams and authentic masala chai made in-house. We are known for bringing traditional Indian flavors like kesar pista, rose, cardamom, kulfi, and chai spice into a modern café setting that feels welcoming to everyone.
What truly sets us apart is authenticity. We don’t just use flavorings we work with real ingredients, slow-brew our chai, and make our ice creams from scratch. Our menu blends nostalgia with creativity, offering everything from classic kulfi flavors to innovative combinations like chai-infused ice cream and seasonal specialty creations.
We are especially proud of building a culturally rooted brand that resonates beyond one community. Sarabhas Creamery has been recognized among the top ice cream destinations in Tennessee and has built a loyal following through consistent quality and word-of-mouth support.
Brand-wise, we are most proud of creating more than a dessert shop ,we’ve created a gathering place. A place where families celebrate, students study over chai, and friends connect over late-night ice cream.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What we love most about Nashville is its energy and sense of community. It’s a city that truly supports small businesses. People here are open to trying something new, which gave us the confidence to introduce Indian-style ice cream and traditional chai to a broader audience. The mix of cultures, students, professionals, creatives, and families creates a vibrant environment where unique concepts can thrive.
Nashville also has a strong “word-of-mouth” culture, when people love something, they share it. That community support has meant everything to us.
If there’s one challenge, it’s the rapid growth of the city. With growth comes higher costs, increased competition, and infrastructure pressures that can make it harder for small businesses to navigate. But even those challenges are part of what makes Nashville dynamic and full of opportunity.
Overall, we’re grateful to be building our brand in a city that embraces innovation while still valuing local, community-driven businesses.
