Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Drury.
Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Creativity has always been part of my life. I grew up doing crafts with my mom, who is a graphic designer, and that early exposure to art shaped so much of who I am. I went on to study Studio Art in college with a focus in painting and digital illustration, and after graduating, I moved to Nashville and pursued a career in design.
Even while working professionally in design, I never stopped painting. I took on freelance projects, painted murals, and continued teaching classes, which has always been something I love. Seeing people gain confidence through art is incredibly rewarding.
About a year ago, I had the idea to make painting classes mobile and more accessible. In July, I brought that vision to life by launching The Little Brush. I created the branding, built the website, and hosted my first class at Honeytree Meadery. Now, alongside my graphic design career, I teach regular classes and am growing into more private events like birthday parties, girls’ nights, bachelorettes, and children’s classes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been smooth. Like many creative paths, my career has involved a lot of learning, pivoting, and figuring out what truly lights me up. I love design, but over time I realized I was deeply missing the energy that comes from teaching and connecting with people in person.
That realization is what pushed me to start The Little Brush. Building a business from scratch required a lot of research, planning, and courage. There are moments that can feel discouraging, especially when a class doesn’t fill up the way I hoped. I’ve had to learn not to tie my confidence to one outcome and instead focus on what I can improve, refine, and control.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a graphic designer by day and the founder of The Little Brush, a mobile painting business here in Nashville. In my design work, I focus on branding and visual identity, and I love helping ideas feel polished and cohesive.
With The Little Brush, I host guided painting classes and private events that are meant to feel relaxed, fun, and welcoming. I want people to walk in feeling comfortable, even if they haven’t picked up a paintbrush since elementary school, and leave genuinely proud of what they created.
I’m most proud of taking a simple idea and building it into something real. What sets me apart is that I care just as much about how something feels as how it looks. I want every class and every design project to feel thoughtful and personal.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think people would be surprised at how much I love teaching kids. There’s something really special about their confidence and imagination. Children’s classes feel just as meaningful to me as adult events.
