Community Highlights: Meet Nadia Simmons of Healthy Soul Catering Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Simmons.

Hi Nadia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for food started long before Healthy Soul Catering Company ever existed. I was born in California and raised by strong women who believed that cooking was one of the most meaningful ways to show love. My grandmother, who was an incredible Southern cook, spent countless hours in the kitchen, and I was always near, watching and learning.
When I was nine, my family moved to Chicago, where I was suddenly surrounded by a melting pot of cultures and cuisines. My father loved bringing home different late-night favorites like Italian beef sandwiches. Which opened my eyes to how food connects people and traditions from all over the world.
At fourteen we moved again, this time to Jackson, Tennessee. Family gatherings were a big part of life there, and I vividly remember watching my mother prepare meals for nearly 200 people with just one oven. Seeing that level of dedication and hospitality left a lasting impression on me.
I later moved to Middle Tennessee to attend Middle Tennessee State University, where I earned my degree in Advertising and Marketing. While living on my own, I began hosting gatherings and experimenting with the foods I grew up with, blending Southern traditions with global inspiration.
After being asked to cater a bridal shower for a friend, I realized that this passion could become something more. In 2017, I officially launched Healthy Soul Catering Company.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No!!!! Lol!! Like most entrepreneurs, the road has had plenty of challenges along the way. Building a business from the ground up requires long hours, a lot of trial and error, and learning how to navigate everything from logistics and staffing to the financial side of running a company, and balancing home/work life.
In the early years especially, I was wearing every hat imaginable— chef, shopper, event planner, marketer, delivery driver, cleanup crew, dishwasher, office manager….EVERYTHING. There were moments where the workload felt overwhelming, but every event taught me something new and helped shape the systems and standards we have today. I believe the hardest thing was the lack of help. My brain had all tabs opened all day, every day.

Shortly after launching Healthy Soul Catering Company my grandmother, who was one of my biggest culinary influences, passed away. Losing her was incredibly difficult, but it also strengthened my commitment to honoring the family traditions and recipes that inspired me to start this business in the first place.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
