Community Highlights: Meet Josalynn Pech of Josalynn Elise Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josalynn Pech.

Hi Josalynn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never really planned on being a photographer, even though I have always loved taking photos and done a good job with just a cell phone! When I had my first daughter Tessah, I would do cute set ups of her every month and get some really great photos! When she was one and a half I finally had enough money saved up for a really nice camera, which is the camera that I still have today! Photography blew up insanely quickly as I had a high demand of clients in my area in North Carolina! Being a young mom and military wife in a state that I didn’t know anybody, photography really helped me branch out and find something that I really loved doing. Taking photos never really feels like work to me. It’s just fun. It has been four years since I started photography and I definitely learn more every single day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a rough road, but I definitely have learned so much over the years. A lot of people are shocked to find out that I’m a self taught Photographer. I never did any schooling or classes. Everything that I have learned is pretty much from trial and error or small tips from fellow Photographer friends. I think me splurging on my first camera and Lens set up really set me up for success. My biggest challenge would be whenever my husband and I move to a new duty station. I have to rebuild my clientele in my brand in our new area. It’s always a really scary transition. We actually are about to move again to Illinois and I am very nervous, but the transition from North Carolina to Tennessee went a lot better than I thought it would.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My photography business is just solely run by me! I first started out by just doing outdoor sessions of families, couples and maternity sessions, but it has gotten so much bigger than that! I now have my own studio where I do newborn photography along with so many other studio sessions! I also have a huge client closet, which I feel like sets me apart from a lot of photographers. I do a lot of studio themed mini sessions for holidays like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter things like that and I always try to do my themed sessions pretty affordable so that all people can afford nice photos of their kiddos! Growing up my family never had the means to get professional photos so I like to make them accessible to everyone 😊

Any big plans?
My big change is that my husband recently got recruiting orders and we will be relocating to Northern Illinois! I’m super nervous about the change and rebuilding my brand once again, but it’s just part of being a military spouse. As much as I get wrapped up in my business, I have to remember that it’s always a hobby first. it’s just hard when you’re such a busy Photographer in your area to think about moving to a new spot where you don’t know anybody. Once my husband is out of the military in about 13 years, I would love to have our forever home on land with a lot of acres cows are my absolute favorite animal and I think they would be such a fun addition to photograph people with! Having a farm would also allow me to have my own areas to photograph in such as flower fields, pretty ponds, and scenic areas that I’m always scouting for. I also would like to have a huge studio on our property!
