Today we’d like to introduce you to MC Amoke.
Hi MC, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story starts back in high school. I went to a school called Kapsabet Boys High school in Kapsabet town, Nandi County right here in Kenya. There we had school functions that included math contests, English contests and symposiums etc. It is during one such event that I realized I had a talent in emceeing. Soon enough I became the MC for all school functions onwards. The public speaking prowess and infusion of humour in my speech was already in me since my early teenage. Getting into Kenyatta University , my talent was natured even more. It has been a long journey, 10 years and counting. I grew a good fan base while at KU that moved with me into the professional world. To get to where I am today has been a mix of hard work, God’s hand. luck and help from few individuals in the entertainment industry at large.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. Hell NO!! This has been a journey of tears, sweat and blood. A journey of good days and bad days in equal measure. A journey marred with a period of alcohol and substance abuse, This has been a very tough journey to say the least. Nonetheless, I have kept going. Whenever I stumble down, I stand up, dust myself and keep moving. My eyes are on the prize. The struggles include gate-keeping in the Kenyan Entertainment industry, personal struggles like alcohol abuse that derailed me for a minute from the main course.(As I write this I am celebrating 2 years sober in a month), underpayment by promoters in the industry is also a struggle we face, Just to mention but a few. Despite all these, I keep showing up and doing my thing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Master of Ceremonies(MC) and a Hypeman. I specialize in both formal and semiformal events, bringing life to all of them. I am known for my overflowing energy and my deep ,confident and warm voice. Not forgetting my crowd control abilities.
