Lexi Jordan shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Lexi, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Any form of art, whether it’s singing, songwriting, drawing, painting, poetry, etc.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lexi Jordan, and I am a country-pop singer/songwriter from Boston, MA. Thanks to my mom, I was raised on country music and instantly fell in love. The storytelling and lyrics that cut so deep spoke to me even then.
I started singing and taking lessons at about 6 years old. It was always my passion, but I was too afraid to take the stage. About 10 years ago, I was sixteen and had the opportunity to play at Faneuil Hall in Boston. I only did one song, “The House That Built Me”, and after that, I knew I had to keep performing. Since then, I have played at The Big E, Loretta’s Last Call, Indian Ranch, and Country 102.5’s studio as their “Local Catch”.
After high school, I went on to study digital marketing at Bryant University. I took a break from performing to adjust, and by junior year, I was back to playing shows. Rather than heading out to parties on weekends, I was headed to Boston to play some country music. When I was 21, my debut single “Highway” was released and later featured on iHeartRadio. It’s a song about choosing yourself and your dreams despite others’ opinions. Since then, I have released “Blame” and “When We Were”. All of which have now surpassed tens of thousands of streams, and I still pinch myself every time I look.
In late 2022, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to continue pursuing music. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with such incredible people. I took some time the last couple of years to adjust to life after college and really take in the new scene. I am very excited to start releasing music again when the time is right. I’m so thankful to all who have streamed my music and come to watch me play. I’ve always wanted to show others and my younger self that it really is possible to do what you love. It just takes some courage to start down the path. Though it can be scary, there is nothing more worth it.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
I am incredibly grateful to my parents not only for their support but also for the examples they set. I’ve never seen a day when they didn’t work incredibly hard with determination and grit. They both taught me a lot of what I know about business.
My dad started his own business when I was very young, and it’s an honor to follow in his footsteps. He always taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to, but also never forget to give back and help others. A huge part of why I fell in love with music was because it put feelings into words I didn’t know how to express at the time. It means the absolute world to hear from fans that I did that for them. It’s definitely a full circle kind of moment. My mom taught me how to face challenges, trust my intuition, and be a businesswoman in a male-dominated industry. She’s always been a trailblazer and never let anyone affect her journey, all while doing it with grace and kindness.
Also, I am the youngest in my family with two siblings. Like many youngest siblings, I looked up to them my whole life and still do. My brother always showed me that chasing a dream is never crazy. The only thing that’s crazy is not trying at all. My sister showed me resilience and how important it is to keep moving forward.
All of them showed me unconditional love and how, no matter the distance, we are all right there together through it all. I wouldn’t be me without them.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I would definitely say worrying about what other people might think of me or what I choose to do. I have improved immensely in that area, and I’ve realized many people experience the same. Growing up at the start of social media, I think I started comparing myself early on without necessarily realizing it. I realized after college that I didn’t even remember life before it. So, the past few years have really been about channeling who I am and what happiness means to me. It is always important to care about others, but it’s just as important to care about yourself, too.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say the public version of me is very close to the real version of me. Ever since I started putting out music, authenticity has always been most important to me. Genuine artists are the ones I always looked up to. I might not always be wearing rhinestones and boots, but the heart of who I am will always remain my brand.
If I had to pick something, though, I would like to share more of my personality. I hear I am pretty funny but it can be surprisingly hard to reflect that online. We’re working on it!
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
This question reminded me of “How They Remember You” by Rascal Flatts. They have always been a huge inspiration of mine. I had the opportunity to meet Gary Levox and tell him how much their music helped and inspired me. He was so kind and appreciative, and I will never forget that moment. That’s the kind of thing I want people to say about me when I’m gone. I want to be known as someone who gave it their all but also never forgot to stop and say thank you along the way. Kindness and helping others have always been very important to me.
