Today we’d like to introduce you to Netty Walters.
Hi Netty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2019 I sat in the C-suite with 2 littles under 2 and a new auto-immune diagnosis. Before that, I was marathon runner bedridden from burnout and fighting a debilitating virus, still trying to “hustle” like all my peers.
I was “healthy” by cultural standards, until I wasn’t. When doctor after doctor after doctor, month after month, couldn’t help me, I claimed radical responsibility grasping for anything that might help…
Integrative nutrition, hot yoga and a life coach happened to be 3 things (through the mercy of Christ) that were my sources for self-healing. God had woven a dream into my soul when He created me, and I wasn’t paying any attention to it.
I course corrected to heal and raise my tiny saints, and I went back to school so I could understand the science behind these modalities of wellbeing and learn the skills to be able to bring them to those who need it most.
Since then, I’ve been helping clients achieve their wellness visions through 1:1 coaching with simple strategies for soulful self-care and group yoga training. I love volunteering at my kiddos school, reading to expand my mind and heart, and playing sand volleyball doubles with my husband. I even wrote 2 books (another lifelong dream of mine). And, the time is NOW for me to pour into my community in bigger ways by operating a community-centered boutique fitness space named Rebel Studios.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, I didn’t know I was going to open a yoga, pilates and barre studio, but synchronicity kept appearing and I don’t believe in “coincidences”. Finding a space that fit the vision and securing funding with no substantial backing came quite easily, and I believe that was a God thing. However, I’ve encountered a lot of naysayers while presenting my business plan. Starting a yoga business rooted in my Christian faith meant getting very clear in my mission through discernment, leaning on my incredible support system, and (quite frankly) relentless perseverance in prayer. Starting a business rooted in accessibility, though, meant thinking differently about cost structures and wellness solutions not currently available in our community. Can “yoga” look like this instead? Does a group fitness class HAVE to cost that much? How can we start pouring into the community, even from the starting line? And, having a central nervous system disease to manage makes it hard somedays to show up and create a safe space for others to do the same. I find myself using my challenges as an anchor and a platform for compassion-it keeps me remembering WHY I’m doing this in the first place.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rebel Studios, LLC?
Rebel Studios, LLC is a faith-rooted, science-backed hot yoga, Pilates and barre studio located on the border of Thompson’s Station and Spring Hill, TN. We specialize in Baptiste-inspired hot power yoga using infrared heat, along with low-impact, high-intensity based classes, somatic movement, and 1:1 integrative nutrition coaching—creating a well-rounded, soul-first approach to wellness. Most recently we’ve been blessed to offer classes with weights, unique Pilates/barre fusion classes, and… studio child care coming soon. What sets Rebel apart is our deep commitment to accessibility, authenticity, and community. We offer pay-what-you-can options, outreach programs, and a space designed to feel like home—complete with a welcoming lobby, a community mural, and a culture where you’re met with encouragement, not expectation. Born from my personal healing journey through burnout and autoimmune illness, Rebel is more than a studio—it’s a movement for those ready to break free from the status quo and reconnect with themselves. Brand-wise, we’re most proud of the impact we’ve made in a short time—giving back through donated classes, charitable contributions, and creating employment opportunities for local women—all while building a space where every person, from beginner to experienced, truly feels like they belong.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding the right mentor and building a strong network starts with being willing to show up authentically and stay teachable. The biggest thing that’s worked for me is putting myself in rooms where I’m the least experienced person—whether that’s workshops, community events, or coaching spaces—and being open about where I’m at and where I want to grow. I’ve found that mentors often come organically when you’re in alignment and doing the work; as a coach, I’ll always have a coach, and that proximity to growth-minded people matters.
I also focus on building real relationships, not transactional ones. Instead of asking, “What can I get?” I ask, “How can I serve or support?” That shift creates deeper, more meaningful connections. Consistency is key too—following up, staying connected, and continuing to show up over time builds trust. And honestly, some of the most powerful networking I’ve experienced has come through community—just being in spaces where people feel seen, supported, and safe to be themselves. That’s where collaboration and mentorship naturally grow.
