Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Faddoul.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really began with a personal challenge. My daily yoga practice was taking a toll on my hair, and I couldn’t find solutions that were both gentle and effective. That experience sparked an idea. Driven by my passion for yoga and wellness, my husband and I built Ahimsa from the ground up. Our mission is to create natural, non-toxic hair care that protects and nourishes hair before and after practice—rooted in the principles of non-violence and holistic living, and designed especially for yoga enthusiasts and active lifestyles.
Originally from Puerto Rico and raised in New York City, my professional path began in law. But after relocating to Tennessee with my family, I found a new sense of strength in balancing family life with my yoga practice. That search for balance ultimately became the inspiration behind Ahimsa.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been challenging from the very beginning. Early on, we had to define not just a name, but how to clearly express the ethos of Ahimsa through our words, visuals, and products.
Product development was especially difficult. We started during the pandemic, when many labs weren’t taking on small brands, and supply chain disruptions made sourcing ingredients and packaging incredibly slow. It took time to find the right partners and bring the full vision together.
Since launching, our biggest challenge has been visibility—helping people discover the brand, understand its purpose, and feel confident trying something new. In a tougher economic climate, breaking through the noise has required persistence and creativity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Ahimsa is a wellness-driven hair care brand created specifically for people with active lifestyles—especially those who practice yoga. We formulate natural, non-toxic products designed to protect, strengthen, and nourish hair before and after movement, sweat, and daily stress.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just “clean beauty”—we’re purpose-built. Our formulas are inspired by the real needs that come from an active practice, whether that’s preventing breakage from tight styles, protecting hair during workouts, or restoring moisture afterward. Everything we create is rooted in the principle of ahimsa, or non-violence—meaning we’re intentional about what goes into our products and how they impact both people and the planet.
We specialize in simple, effective rituals that fit seamlessly into a wellness routine. Our approach is holistic: we see hair care as an extension of self-care, not just a cosmetic step.
What I’m most proud of is that Ahimsa was born from a real, personal need and has grown into something that genuinely supports others in their routines. It’s not about perfection—it’s about helping people feel confident, cared for, and aligned with their values.
Ultimately, I want people to know that Ahimsa is more than a product line—it’s a mindful approach to caring for yourself, inside and out.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I see risk as something you manage, not something you avoid. I take calculated risks that align with our values and long-term vision.
Starting Ahimsa was definitely a major risk, building something from the ground up, without guarantees. We were also developing a product in the middle of a global pandemic, facing supply chain issues and limited access to labs. There were moments where the safer choice would have been to wait—but I believed in the need for what we were creating.
Entrepreneurship naturally comes with risk, but I’ve found that the biggest risk is not pursuing something you truly believe in.
