Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Renae.
Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up with a music-loving mother. She taught me how to play piano, got me in voice lessons, sparked my love for it. I started songwriting when I was 13 and knew then that music was what I wanted to do! So I graduated high school, went to college for music, had a real rough time. But I met a professor who connected me to two internships. One of those ended up connecting me to my husband and then the other ended up putting me in Nashville, TN. I never imagined I would live in the country music center, but it has been the biggest blessing! I work at a record label, I produce music part-time, I’ve written hundreds of songs in both pop & country, and now I got some upcoming projects that I am really excited about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I think anyone can say that. My time in college was particularly rough with my mental health. I entered it recovering from COVID-19 and I think everyone was very socially awkward. I didn’t really know who I was. I was alone, I moved across the country to a place I’d never been to, and I didn’t really believe in myself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a pop artist and multi-genre producer! I love 80s, synth and deeper-feeling music for myself as an artist. But I also have loved producing music for my husband’s band: Highway 94. I’ve produced from folk, indie, pop, country, and even EDM! And I’ve loved all of it and draw from all of those genres to find the best sound for a particular song. I’m most proud of my ability to hear ideas and things that can work in a song. I don’t have too much right now to showcase for it, but check back in a few months and you’ll see what I mean!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can just reach out to my email: michelle.renae.music@gmail.com if they want to do any of those things! The best way to support is to follow my social medias and like, comment and engage with my (albeit, not great) posts. In a monetary way, my website has a little tab where people can donate to my music.
