Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Lobb.
Caroline, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started with a little girl who was obsessed with the blues. Stevie Ray Vaughan was my idol growing up, and when I got my little pink Fender Squier, I was convinced I knew exactly what I was supposed to do with my life—be a rockstar.
Looking back now, I think I would have made that little girl proud with where I am now but still there is a long way to go. I’m from a small town in Texas with no music scene, so I had to create my own. I played anywhere I could, learned everything I could, and knew pretty quickly that if I wanted to seriously pursue music, I needed to be somewhere that challenged and inspired me.
The first time I came to Nashville, I knew this was where I wanted to go. I ended up attending Lipscomb University, where I studied songwriting and quickly got plugged into the music community there. A lot of the gigs I still play today came from those relationships and opportunities from Lipscomb.
Lipscomb also helped me realize that I didn’t have to choose between being a bass player and being an artist—I could be both. That gave me the confidence to really step into my own artistry. Since then, I’ve released multiple singles and my debut EP in February 2026, which was a huge milestone for me. Along with creating a band called Franceen and we are a funk/pop duo inspired by Silk Sonic and Doechii.
Now, while being an independent artist, I also work as a private music teacher in Brentwood, while also playing professionally as a bass player and guitarist for artists like Haven Madison from American Idol and Grammy-winning artist Russ Taff on tours and one off gigs..
All to say, navigating life as an independent artist, songwriter, and musician isn’t easy and I don’t really know what I’m doing but, I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and excited for what’s next:)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest challenge for me was moving away from my family. I’m the only one in my family who doesn’t live in Texas, so when I moved to Nashville, I was completely on my own. I didn’t know anyone, and I had to build a life and a support system from scratch.
That was definitely hard at first—not having family close by. So learning how to navigate everything on my own really challenged my independence and social skills 🙂 Thankfully, God blessed me with some incredible friends who became family. They’ve been my support system, my community, and honestly a huge reason I’ve been able to keep going down this road. Without them and my supportive family back home in Texas, I truly don’t think I’d be where I am today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a professional musician, songwriter, and creative, with bass guitar really at the center of what I do. So if you asked people what I’m known for, they’d probably say “bass girl” or something along those lines—and honestly, they wouldn’t be wrong. Being a female bass player is still a pretty niche space, and I’ve built a lot of my career around that, playing across genres like pop, funk, R&B, rock, and now even progressive metal. All to say, I LOVE playing for artists, supporting their vision, and helping bring songs to life both live and in the studio.
But there’s a lot more to me than just bass. Songwriting is just as important to me. I co-write and produce with other artists and release my own music as an independent artist. Writing has always been one of the most personal and meaningful parts of music for me, It allows me to truly dive into how I feel and also expand my musicianship.
I also love creative directing and helping shape the visual side of an artist’s vision. I care a lot about the bigger picture—branding, live show concepts, visuals, storytelling—all of it. I think music can be so much bigger than just the song, and I love helping create that full experience.
I think I’m most proud of building my own path as a musician, professional, independent artist and successfully releasing my debut EP- ‘Look Me In the Eye’.
It proved to me that I really can do it ALL.
It is up to me to make it happen and I am constantly reminded that no one is stopping me from putting myself out there. So moments like playing for an artist in a sold out theatre or presenting my new song I wrote to my friends in a room remind me that taking the risk to pursue music was worth it.
I think what sets me apart is that I understand both sides of the creative process. I know what it feels like to be the artist with the vision, and I also know what it means to be the musician/creative helping support that vision. Whether I’m producing, playing bass, writing, or helping creatively with a project, I walk into those situations with authenticity, leaving my ego at the door, and a real desire to make people feel something through the music I’m part of:)
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Moises is a great app for musicians! You can separate tracks in a song and turn them up or down, change the key, or tempo. It is great for musicians who want to learn a song accurately!
A book that has been invaluable to me on this journey has been “The Artists Way’. I know this is a popular book for creatives, and there is a good reason. It truly helps with the creative process and inspiring consistency across the board and a deeper sense of purpose for your writing.
