Today we’d like to introduce you to Vic “MagicOnTheBeat” Washington Jr..

Hi Vic “MagicOnTheBeat”, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the church in my hometown of Boston. The church, originally named New Covenant Christian Church and later rebranded as Jubilee, is where my love for music truly began at the age of five. I vividly remember sitting at just the right angle so I could keep my eyes locked on the musicians during service. While church was meant for worship, music became the bridge that deepened my walk with God. Creativity has always surrounded me — my father, Victor Washington Sr., is a vocalist, my mother, Kathy Washington played violin, my sisters sang and danced, and my older brother sings as well.

In 2003, my good friend Martin “AllMityOne” Prospere introduced me to the program now known worldwide as FL Studio. That moment changed my life and solidified my decision to dedicate myself to music production for the rest of my life.

My career journey began in 2007 when I sold my first beat at 16 years old and was presented with an opportunity to work with Max B. In 2011, I received a call to work with Cyrus Deshield while he was with Universal Music Group. In 2014, I landed a placement with 600 Breezy, followed by being discovered in 2015 by Blair “BR” Ross and signing with GOT ONE Entertainment.

In 2016, I produced an entire album for label artist Shawn Taylor, and in 2017, I contributed production work to Lea Robinson’s “Broken Girl” project. By 2019, I helped package an artist deal for EMPIRE alongside Sean “Pen” McMillion.

In 2020, I relocated to Atlanta to continue pursuing music full-time. The following year, I joined Writing Sessions America under the guidance of Kevin Shine and secured my first sync placement on Power Book II: Ghost through Sony Music Entertainment.

In 2022, I produced and wrote records for Zone21 and TEN while helping push the sound and creative direction of Writing Sessions America. That same year, I visited Nashville for the first time to attend the UME Conference, where I also performed an unreleased song and began building meaningful industry relationships in the city. In 2023, I returned to the conference and performed again alongside Zone21.

In 2024, I was referred to the The Recording Academy by Joan Sullivan and Shamel Hughes. That same year, I was given the opportunity to produce for Drew Castle and was later introduced by Shalom “J Storm” Miller to produce records for MC D.

In 2025, I stepped away from Writing Sessions America to fully re-enter my independent career path, reconnecting with industry executives and working with multiple labels. In 2026, I connected with Mimi McCarley of CollabMusicNetwork to continue expanding my work in the sync licensing world.

Today, with over 300 productions and songs in my catalog, my journey continues to be driven by faith, creativity, and the passion to create timeless music that connects with people around the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t trust a smooth road that didn’t take bumps to get there.

I’ve experienced records being released without proper credit or compensation, and I’ve lost opportunities because my younger self was sometimes too comfortable in rooms where I needed to prove I belonged. Still, I don’t regret any of the lessons I’ve learned. In this industry, it’s rare for people to genuinely show you where you’re falling short and how to improve. Fortunately, I’ve had both industry and non-industry individuals pour wisdom into me and help shape a better version of myself.

I’ve come to appreciate every bump in the road because those experiences taught me things that can only be understood through lived experience: recognizing my value, mastering the art of reading the room, building a character that can’t be shaken or broken, understanding the energy I want to project and receive, and realizing that what I ask God for is never a handout — it’s the opportunity to earn and walk into what I’ve prayed for.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a music producer, songwriter, and creative director known professionally as MagicOnTheBeat A.K.A “MagicMadeIt”. I specialize in Pop, R&B and Hip-Hop production, songwriting, vocal production, and artist development — helping artists shape records from the idea stage to the final product.

I’ve worked with artists such as Lea Robinson, Elle Varner, 600 Breezy, TEN, Zone21, and more . My production work has been featured on television placements including Power Book II: Ghost and Tyler Perry’s Sistas. Beyond released work, I’ve built a catalog of over 300+ unreleased productions and songs that reflect years of creative development and consistency.

What sets me apart is my ability to create full experiences, not just beats. I approach music with a producer’s ear and a songwriter’s mindset, focusing on emotion, structure, and artist identity. My sound is heavily influenced by my journey from Boston to Atlanta, blending soulful storytelling with modern energy.

What I’m most proud of is doing my daughter’s theme song for her YouTube channel. If we are being technical, that was actually my first sync placement *light chuckle*. I’m also proud of being able to turn real-life experiences into impactful music while continuing to help artists grow creatively and professionally. For me, it’s always been bigger than music — it’s about creating timeless records and building legacy through authentic art.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In the words of Bruce Lee, “Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

The lesson I’ve taken from that philosophy and applied to the music industry is learning how to remain useful and adaptable in every room I enter. I’ve become a true jack of all trades by consistently asking people in my network, “How can I help you accomplish your vision?”

Beat making introduced me to songwriting. Songwriting led me into engineering. Combining those skills became a major part of shaping the producer I am today. Through studying the greats before me, I also developed an understanding of arrangement, A&R, artist development, management, and other creative tools that help push a project forward.

For me, being a producer goes far beyond making beats — it’s about understanding how every piece of the puzzle works together to bring a vision to life.
