Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Couch.
Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been anything but traditional, and honestly, I think that’s what shaped who I am and how I serve people today.
I served in the Army and deployed to Iraq, which taught me a lot about leadership, sacrifice, perspective, and the importance of people. Those experiences shaped me deeply and gave me a greater appreciation for purpose, community, and using the gifts we’ve been given.
After that season, I spent many years in ministry as a worship pastor and creative director, leading creative teams at large churches and helping tell stories that impacted thousands of people every week. During that time, creativity became more than design to me — it became about connection, storytelling, and helping people feel seen.
At the same time, I started what would eventually become Couch Creative Co. over 16 years ago in Seattle as a side hustle to help support my family. What began as small design projects slowly grew through relationships, word of mouth, and a genuine desire to help people communicate who they are and what they do.
Over time, I realized I loved helping businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations bring their vision to life. Not just making things look good, but helping them tell their story, build trust, and create brands that truly reflect who they are.
Music has also always been a huge part of my journey. As a worship leader, songwriter, and musician, it shaped how I view creativity and storytelling. Whether I’m creating a brand, filming content, designing a website, or writing music, it all comes back to the same thing for me: helping people connect to a story and feel something meaningful.
In 2022, my family moved to Tennessee, and the business continued to grow. Today, Couch Creative Co. is a branding, web design, and content agency where I work with businesses, entrepreneurs, restaurants, financial firms, creatives, and organizations to help them clarify their message, elevate their brand, and create meaningful experiences.
At the heart of everything I do is storytelling. I believe people connect with authenticity. Beautiful design matters, but what matters even more is helping people feel seen, understood, and confident in what they’ve built.
Looking back, every season prepared me for this one. Today, I get to blend everything from my journey — military service, ministry, music, creativity, storytelling, and entrepreneurship — into helping people build brands, businesses, and ideas with purpose, and that’s something I don’t take lightly.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and honestly, I think most entrepreneurs would probably say the same.
There have been a lot of different seasons in my life — military deployments, transitioning out of that world, years in ministry, becoming a husband and father, moving across the country, and building a business while trying to create stability for my family.
When I started Couch Creative Co., it was never some big launch or perfectly planned business. It began as a side hustle while working full-time because I wanted to provide more for my family. Like many business owners, there were seasons of uncertainty, long nights, learning everything on my own, balancing multiple responsibilities, and figuring things out as I went.
One of the biggest challenges was learning to transition from serving everyone else to realizing I needed to value my own time, creativity, and experience too. In the creative industry especially, it’s easy to overgive, undervalue yourself, and pour into everyone else until you burn out.
Moving my family to Tennessee was another huge step of faith. We left what was familiar, started over in many ways, and rebuilt through relationships, word of mouth, and trust. Starting over can be uncomfortable, but it also creates growth.
Personally, there were also seasons where I had to rediscover who I was outside of titles and roles. Military, ministry, business, music — each season shaped me differently. Learning that identity isn’t tied to a position but to purpose was a huge lesson for me.
Looking back now, I’m grateful for the difficult parts because they built resilience, perspective, and empathy. They taught me how to serve people better, lead differently, and create with more intention.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the founder and creative director of Couch Creative Co., a Tennessee-based creative agency specializing in branding, web design, content creation, and storytelling. I help businesses, entrepreneurs, and organizations clarify their message, elevate their brand, and create meaningful experiences that build trust and move people to action.
I specialize in strategic branding, StoryBrand messaging, I’m a Squarespace website design developer, content creation, and helping businesses create a cohesive presence that feels authentic and aligned across every touchpoint.
Over the last 16+ years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across branding, creative direction, photography, videography, content creation, music, and storytelling. Because of that, I naturally approach projects from a bigger-picture perspective. I’m not just thinking about design — I’m thinking about the story, the experience, the customer journey, and how everything works together to create connection.
What I’m probably most known for is helping businesses move from feeling scattered or templated to creating brands that feel elevated, intentional, and truly reflect who they are.
I’m also deeply relationship-driven. My goal has never been to just deliver a logo or a website. I want people to feel seen, understood, and confident in what they’re building. Many of my clients become long-term relationships because I genuinely care about their mission and success.
I’ve also had the opportunity over the last 2 years to serve as the Creative Designer for Modern Vintage News, the print publication founded by actress, New York Times best selling author, and singer Bethany Joy Lenz. I help bring the publication to life through editorial design and visual storytelling, which has been an exciting extension of my creative work and love for narrative-driven design.
What sets me apart is probably the combination of experiences that shaped me. My background in the military, ministry, music, leadership, and entrepreneurship all influence how I create and serve others. Each season gave me a different perspective, and together they shaped the way I approach storytelling, creativity, and leadership today.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a specific project — it’s the impact. Seeing businesses grow, helping people pursue their calling, watching clients gain confidence in their brand, and knowing creativity can help change someone’s future is the part I love most.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Donald Miller has probably had one of the biggest influences on the way I think about business, branding, and communication. I’ve been a fan for years, and his StoryBrand framework completely changed how I approach helping clients. It reinforced something I already believed — people connect with stories, clarity matters, and businesses do better when they stop making themselves the hero and instead serve the customer well.
Beyond that, I’m a big believer in continually learning and investing in growth. I enjoy reading books on leadership, creativity, business, and personal development because I think great leaders and creatives never stop learning.
A few books and resources that have impacted me over the years are Building a StoryBrand, Steal Like an Artist, The Go-Giver, and Atomic Habits. Each one challenged me in different ways — from creativity and storytelling to leadership, generosity, and building sustainable habits.
I also enjoy learning from podcasts, conferences, and conversations with other entrepreneurs and creatives. Some of my best ideas honestly come from hearing people’s stories, listening to clients, observing life, and staying curious.
At the end of the day, I think growth comes from staying teachable. Whether it’s business, creativity, music, leadership, faith, or family, I always want to keep learning and becoming better.
