Check Out Robert Longhurst’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Longhurst.

Hi Robert, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have worked in bars and restaurants most of my life and I was born and raised in Nashville. I love small towns and Springfield really stood out to me as a great community that was in need of more independent restaurants and bars. After opening another bar in rural Goodlettsville (Union Hill Trading Post) I partnered with a longtime friend (Will Fulford) to purchase the Springfield property and open up The Colt Tavern.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things have been relatively smooth. We have a professional staff and great management, so things are smooth.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I really enjoy the restaurant and bar industry from start to finish. The creative aspect of breathing life into an old building and the rewarding aspect of supplying a community with a place to gather. I would like to think my specialty is building a unique guest experience. We are known for bringing unique concepts to areas that may not be considered “prime” markets and creating a quality small town bar or restaurant that is becoming more rare in America and especially cities like Nashville and surrounding areas. The locations of my businesses set us apart from others. The Trading Post is located in a rural area about 25min North of downtown. We are the only commercially zoned property within several miles. The Colt Tavern is just off the square in historic downtown Springfield. Getting outside of the overdevelopment of Nashville to a charming small town like Springfield is definitely unique.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am not a big believer of luck. Hard work pays off if you don’t give up. There are always things and opportunities that present themselves to you but it’s up to you to put yourself in a position to take advantage or be patient until you are able to take advantage.
