Conversations with Giselle Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Giselle Mora.

Giselle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took a liking to photography ever since I was a kid, but I began taking it seriously in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began. I was a senior in high school, so after we left school on a Friday afternoon, we never went back. We found a camera for sale on Marketplace, and I purchased it. I started taking graduation photos for my classmates after we lost a major part of our senior-year experience, and it honestly made the start of my business so much more special. As the years went on, I continued to work on photography, eventually branching out to the automotive world. I have now been doing photography for 6 years and have been able to do some amazing things. I do work a full-time job in the automotive industry, but I am blessed to still be able to incorporate my photography into my daily work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like I’m sure other creatives can relate, my photography journey hasn’t always been a smooth road. In the beginning, I struggled with obtaining consistent bookings and having no-shows. I also struggled fully viewing myself as a business owner and realizing that it is important to create professional boundaries and ensure people respect my time and work. Overtime, I have learned how to overcome these obstacles, but there are going to be times where they’re inevitable, such as slow seasons.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer, with a majority of my work being lifestyle and portrait-focused, but I’m always open to other things too! I’m also known for my automotive projects. One of the projects I am most proud of is a birthday parade I captured for a little boy’s birthday a few years ago. It turned into a large event in the car community, and it was so special to be able to be a part of it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest supporter has always been my mom. She is extremely supportive of me and what I do, and for that I am forever grateful. She will attend shoots with me as my assistant, help me set up, and be there in the late nights where she keeps me company as I edit. Another person that I look up to is Jay, another photographer, who held classes on automotive photography. I learned a lot of what I know from him. I also have a lot of loyal clients who I have been able to capture many moments for, and it is just such a blessing to get to do this.
