Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillian Leadbetter.
Hi Lillian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up at the end of a dirt road in Vermont. It was a magical place to be introduced to the world, I spent most of my childhood playing pretend and singing to the trees. My father was gifted a guitar when I was born and we began singing together when I was quite young, exploring harmonies and the hypnotic experience of creating music with another person. I studied classically throughout high school and college and formed my first band in the summer after high school. I had always dreamed of moving to Nashville and one of the people I met in those college years would have a big impact on my life and help finally tip the scales in favor of just moving to Nashville. I couldn’t be more grateful. Since I’ve been here I have met an incredible community and recorded a new record that I am releasing this July.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course nothing is perfect, however, I choose to meet areas of resistance in my life as invitations or opportunities for growth. Moving to a new place is always an adjustment, there is beauty in that to me. No matter what the challenge, music has always been an incredibly valuable outlet for processes, understanding and moving through those uncertainties.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The music off of my upcoming record, “The World to Come” has a clear thread that ties the songs together: transformation. I experience music, melodically and rhythmically, as the setting in which I can articulate lyrics that I feel a deep need to express. I refer to my music as deeply feminine, exploring that incredibly expansive word, from tenderness, to rage and beyond. It’s within the sonic realm of singer/songwriter, Americana, indie folk and adjacent genres that I feel most at home with my music.
Any big plans?
This June I am releasing my last single before my upcoming album release in July, “The World to Come”. I am excited to share this record with the world, continue to perform and begin my next record!
