Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Seaver.
Hi Melanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I think I was born an organizer. My parents say that I would “organize” my dolls on my bed before nap time. As a kid, I loved the process of setting up my room and space and then reorganizing it again just for fun. Fast forward to my years as a stay at home mom of eventually four kids and I noticed how I was constantly shuffling things around the house and organizing was almost a hobby….something I enjoyed doing as an outlet. I loved my job as a full-time stay at home mom but I knew one day my kids would be grown and out of the house! At some point, I had heard about the professional organizing industry. I was excited about the prospect of getting paid to do something that I love while helping others. While my youngest was still in preschool, I decided to dip my toe in the business to see how I would like it. I immediately had interested clients who were so patient with me as I figured things out. This was back in 2017 when I had no business name, website, pricing structure or business card! Nine years later I have a team of five organizers who take care of our clients so well that I get to keep working on the back end building the business. It’s my dream job!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Once I decided that in fact I do like organizing for others, I was a bit clueless on how to build the business. And it actually took me about three years before I really dove in all the way. I’ve been quite surprised with how much I’ve enjoyed learning about the business side of things. Has it been perfect? No! I’ve been stretched and challenged in many different ways. One of my biggest challenges is learning how to “put myself out there.” Working with clients is the easy part. Figuring out how to efficiently keep projects running is the fun part. Sales and marketing are the things that I put at the bottom of the list! But of course they have to be done. This an area where I have to continually push myself so I can continue to grow and scale!
As you know, we’re big fans of Nashville Home Organizers. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We help busy families, professionals, and homeowners create calm, functional, beautifully organized spaces that simplify everyday life. Through thoughtful decluttering, customized systems, unpacking services, and detail-driven organization, we transform overwhelming homes into spaces that feel effortless to live in. Although we love the Pinterest-worthy pictures, beauty is a bonus. We want to make our client’s space work for them! Every client and client home is unique. We are not a cookie-cutter service. We get to know our clients and how they live in their homes. And then we set up organizing systems that they can maintain.
When we come into your home, we come with compassion, not judgement. We’ve seen it all! We will meet you where you are and work to get you to your goals.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
As a child, I was shy around people that I didn’t know well but silly around those close to me. I was a pretty committed to my school work and my teachers loved having me in class. I was involved in all types of different activities. I tried gymnastics, piano, dance, band and running. The only thing that stuck is the running!
I am the first born of three girls, type A, Enneagram 1 who is always trying to improve things around me. When I was young, I didn’t know the best way to use that super power, so I became known as the bossy big sister. Thankfully I’ve matured and I have better tools in my tool box to know how to be a better lead people!
