Inspiring Conversations with Christina Lincicum of Harpeth Hair Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Lincicum.

Hi Christina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Los Angeles in a big, loving extended family, but we didn’t have much. Money was always tight, and a lot of what I learned about resilience came from watching the people around me make something out of very little. My grandparents were immigrants from Mexico, and I spent much of my childhood with them. My grandmother, especially, was the greatest role model I’ve ever had.

Even though she lived with diabetes and eventually passed from it when I was 26, she never stopped working or caring for others. She ran her own micro‑businesses as a caterer and a seamstress, doing whatever she could to support the family and serve the community. She was a strong, steady, positive presence in my life.

I credit my work ethic, my entrepreneurial spirit, and my heart for community to her. She showed me what it looks like to hustle with purpose, to give even when you don’t have much, and to believe in your own potential. She always told me I could do whatever I wanted, and she meant it. She was my biggest supporter, and her influence is still a guiding force in who I am today

I was the first person in my family to graduate from college, I worked full-time during the day and went to school at night to pay for it and to make ends meet. I started my first business when my son was just a year old and my daughter was eight. My son was in and out of doctor’s offices due to several medical issues and my daughter was struggling with school due to a learning disability. I had been working in a corporate job at the same company for 14 years. Although my employer was flexible, it was not enough for the time that I needed to spend with my kids. My children are 16 and 23 now and I wouldn’t change a thing or give any of those years back. Being a business owner and entrepreneur has afforded me the gift of time, time with my family.

Harpeth Hair Co. in Franklin Tennessee is my third business. Every business has been one where I can help people, be part of a community and make a real impact. Harpeth Hair Co. is a place for people to practice self-care while spending time with a hair professional who truly cares about making every person look and feel their best. I believe that when you feel good on the outside it helps your confidence on the inside. We build relationships, one appointment at a time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My first business was a bootstrapped startup, armed with an MBA and years of experience in corporate America I thought a local retail store on a busy street in an established shopping center would be an easy road. It took a couple of years and many sleepless nights and long days, the store eventually became the go to children’s retail store in the neighborhood. I sold the business after about 5 years when my family relocated.

My second investment was a franchised residential and commercial cleaning company that was launched in 2020, during COVID. My location was number two in sales in the nation but after two years we could no longer sustain the financial hurdles of COVID and had to close the territories.

I had no experience or background in the hair industry when I decided to invest in the salon, it was a leap of faith business that I truly saw potential in. During our first month of business, we lost 90% of our clients and staff due to the ownership change. We took that challenge head on by pivoting with a full re-brand and remodel. We launched the new brand in January of this year, hired a new stylist team, welcoming new clients and are building a reputation as the go-to hair salon in Franklin Tennessee.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Harpeth Hair Co.?
Harpeth Hair Co. in an elevated hair salon located in the heart of Franklin Tennessee. Our vibe is southern charm with a beautiful, clean, warm and welcoming environment in a convenient location adjacent to Brentwood and about 20 minutes outside of Nashville. The location has been a salon for 10+ years, and we recently rebranded the salon and went through a full remodel in January of this year.

We have a team of talented professionals who are passionate about hair and making people feel welcomed and leave the chair loving their hair and feeling confident. We have over 70+ combined years of hair experience in our salon. We specialize in all things color, extensions, blonding, precision cutting and we also have a barber and do men’s grooming.

We are honest, genuine and truly care about building relationships with our clients. We are not your typical salon. We want every person that walks through our door to feel welcome. We never double book where you will be greeted by an assistant – we take the time to understand what each client is looking for before we start the service. Hair health is a huge priority. If we can’t do the service because it’s going to harm your hair we will tell you. We also don’t ask for credit cards to make an appointment.

We are accepting new clients and would love to see you in our chair.

What makes you happy?
