Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla And Taylor Ray Ray.
Hi Kayla and Taylor Ray, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We’re the Ray Twins, also known as the Gemini Twins. We’re identical twins, and while people naturally expect twins to be exactly alike, we choose to embrace our differences just as much as our similarities. We’ve learned that individuality and connection can coexist, and over time we realized that contrast became one of our biggest strengths.
Even creatively, we’ve always had our own styles and personalities. Taylor naturally gravitates toward a retro-futuristic aesthetic, and somewhere along the way her signature afro became her thing.
It became a reflection of confidence, individuality, and fully owning who you are. These days, it’s also the easiest way for people to tell us apart.
Our journey into the entertainment industry actually started early.
At 7 years old, we auditioned for a Rice Krispies commercial, which became one of our first introductions to the world of casting and performance.
By 17, we signed with our first modeling agency, which opened the door for expansion and more experience.
Over the years we’ve had opportunities to work in runway shows, music videos, and creative projects that helped us grow personally and professionally.
Along the way, we realized helping people became just as important to us as creativity, which eventually shaped the career paths we’re in today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. We’ve experienced challenges that changed our perspective in life and forced us to grow up faster.
Looking back, going through a house fire as teenagers taught us resilience and reminded us how quickly life can change. It also made us more appreciative of what we have now.
Growing up with our younger brother Colin, who’s on the autism spectrum and requires significant support, also shaped us deeply. We both have such a soft spot for him. He taught us empathy early on and gave us a different perspective on patience and understanding people beyond surface level.
We also graduated from MTSU in 2020 as COVID grads, which came with its own challenges. We finished an important chapter during a time that felt uncertain for everybody and had to navigate sudden changes, from transitioning to online classes to not being able to walk across the stage the way we had always imagined.
Being identical twins in childhood came with its own challenges too.
People naturally compare twins so growing up we experienced that heavily. We’ve had to learn that being twins doesn’t mean we have to be exactly alike. We also realized our differences weren’t something to fight against, they were part of what made us unique.
Now, we realize those experiences shaped us in ways we didn’t understand at the time. They gave us character development and showed us that some of our hardest moments ended up becoming the fuel behind our purpose.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our answer to that is layered because we’re very multifaceted. To start off, we both found ourselves drawn towards work centered around people since we’ve always been interested in psychology, neuroscience, and understanding what shapes the way people think.
Today, we’re using our Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology in careers focused on mental health and human connection, while still making room for creativity and self-expression.
Taylor’s journey eventually evolved into what she jokingly refers to as “casting calls by day, crisis calls by night.”
While still pursuing creative work, she currently works as a crisis counselor with the 988 Lifeline, supporting people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Creativity gave her a passion, but helping people gave her a deeper sense of purpose.
She’s had opportunities to appear in creative film projects and music videos with actors and artists like Corbin Bleu, Shaboozey, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, plus other talents that have inspired us.
Along the way, we continued creating together and had the opportunity to play the “Deitwins” in Zillion’s music video series, which felt like a fun full-circle moment for us. Experiences like that only continued to deepen our love for entertainment and storytelling.
Kayla currently works as a mental health specialist at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and recently earned her certification in Sleep Diagnostics Technology as she continues growing in her career.
Outside of that, she launched Kaymetix on 2/22/2022 as both a creative outlet and hair care brand.
Hair has always been a big part of our identities, and being twins meant years of trying products, sharing routines, and supporting each other along the way. Watching her turn something she genuinely cared about into a brand centered around self-expression and natural hair care made it feel even more personal for both of us.
One thing we hope people take away from our story is that you don’t have to choose one version of yourself. You can be creative and compassionate. You can pursue your passions while uplifting others and still create a life that feels authentic to you. We’ve learned that authenticity tends to take you further than trying to fit societal expectations.
How do you define success?
For us, success is being proud of yourself deeply, even when nobody is clapping because you’ve already clapped for yourself.
Success isn’t always about public applause or recognition. It’s also about making an impact and inspiring other people.
Most of all, success for us is knowing that our younger selves would be proud of the women we’ve evolved into today. It’s being able to look back and imagine the little girls we used to be admiring us now as adults. It’s knowing we’re living the lives we used to daydream about and talked about as kids, now we’re here.
It’s a good feeling to be doing everything you said you were going to do. 🤍
