Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Travers.
Beth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to Nashville as a songwriter, and continued writing songs and finding success playing bass with artists and bands. Seeking a change, I took a hard turn and went to work for the American Red Cross in Service to the Armed Forces to serve our military as mobile staff in Europe. When I came back from the European theater, I started writing again– this time to please myself. I specialize in Beach Music for audiences of SW Florida and the Gulf Coast states. Reaching a new level of success, and after three new CDs and some touring– I’m still enjoying the ride. I live between the writing community in Nashville and the paradise of SW Florida. “My guitar is my boat… it takes me up and down the coast…”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Turning into a fine working bass player was a good solution to not achieving enough financial success as a songwriter. Every turn, while they seem challenging, leads to good changes. After fighting Lyme’s, Valley Fever, surgeries, arthritis, Reynaud’s, and all kinds of bumps in the road I know we all have challenges to overcome, children to raise if we’re lucky, and financial issues to humble us. I’ve seen a lot of roads and quite a few war-torn places along my way and I’ve learned to be grateful–gratitude is key. I’ve learned not to measure myself against others. Where my fans see talent in me, I only see tenacity and a “come from behind” attitude.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have three Beach music albums out–available on all platforms and a lot of success with cowritten songs recorded by my peers. I’ve become a much better singer and entertainer, developed a following and found my niche. Nashville didn’t love me as an artist because I was different–but now my followers love me because I’m different…
This year I also released two mysteries, launching a Nashville-based mystery series featuring a bass-player heroine. I’m writing the third as we do this interview. I’m feeling blessed that my readers want more. (E. Travers, Sing Crazy and The Older The Violin, The Sweeter The Music)
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I listen to podcasts from TikiMan Radio as he gave me my favorite quote, “Go where you are celebrated–not tolerated”.
I have quite a few other podcasts and radio personalities I follow, but recently I am sidelined by the writing… I am a “bookie” in the same way I am a “foodie”– escaping in to fun stories and savoring gourmet delights.
