Daily Inspiration: Meet Maya Azlyn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Azlyn.

Hi Maya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography started as a creative outlet for me back in high school. It started with class projects and turned into my teacher encouraging me and people around me trusting me to capture their moments. Support from teachers and my peers encouraged me to enjoy it and continue to do it and learn how to keep building my skills with the camera.

Over the years, I started taking pictures of my friends and family and would use my siblings to help me achieve creative project throughout the years. With time Ive had the opportunity to photograph weddings, events, and people and each project I do pushes me to do better and be more creative for the next project.

Today, Im more focused on creating meaningful visual stories and expanding the brand outside of just myself. Working and collaborating with other creatives and really pushing myself out of my comfort zone. At the core of it all, it’s still about the same thing that got me started. Capturing moments and helping people tell their stories.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s been a smooth road but I wouldn’t say it’s been a rough road either. I will say that any journey you take in life if its worth it, it should be challenging. Learning how to move around the obstacles that this journey has taken me through has been the funnest part. Not knowing what project to do next or being stuck without any thoughts on how to creatively plan a shoot or execute someone’s vision has allowed me to push myself to limits that I never really saw as possible. Some of the struggles have been from burnout and just thinking I can do everything that other people want me to do, I think its important to be realistic about what you can actually achieve and I think once you start doing that, that’s when the real creative work starts to become good.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Photography and Media Production, I dont really specialize in one particular field because I love it all, from weddings, to events, portraits and working with brands and businesses I find them all uniquely and creatively fun in their own way. Im most proud of being able to work with different brands and businesses and covering local community events that have an impact and help the community.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I dont really believe in luck, I feel like preparation, and effort has a big part in the success of my life and my business and then behind that all I feel like God has guided me in this journey and the way it has gone for me. I think people who get to where they want to be is because they have earned it or at least have had the discipline and consistency to be able to get there.
