Daily Inspiration: Meet Iryna Marchak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iryna Marchak.

Hi Iryna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Iryna MARCHak – Ukrainian violinist, musician.
1. I am an ophthalmologist by profession.
2. I started going to music school at the age of 7, where I performed classical music on the violin for 10 years. Then I played for 4 years in the orchestra of the medical university. 23 years of experience already!
3. I used to live in Florida and Georgia, USA, where I met real cowboys and learned to play country music with them. I bought a violin in Nashville that is more than 100 years old! All subsequent recordings were made on it!
4. I performed as a street musician in Kyiv, Lviv, Prague, playing violin covers in the styles of rock, folk, pop, country, blues and jazz. It was a mega-cool experience!
5. I live in the USA now, developing my skills as a doctor and musician. Everything on my YouTube channel I record myself at my home studio MARCHAK.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Music is my passion.
I work in the medical field but I try to have a balanced life where I can restore my energy through creative music and share it to the world.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an ophthalmologist by profession. I graduated from the O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University, Kyiv, Ukraine. I did my internship in the specialty “Ophthalmology” at the Danylo Halytsky National Medical University, Lviv, Ukraine. Because of russia’s war against Ukraine, I was forced to leave my home and find a safer place to live. I currently work as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, USA. In my role, I perform various types of ocular ultrasound examinations while gaining new knowledge and experience at one of the leading eye hospitals in the United States.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like Philadelphia because it has a touch of European charm, a rich history as the first capital of the United States, and unique architecture. I wish it were safer and cleaner, especially on the streets.
