Daily Inspiration: Meet Landen Arnold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Landen Arnold.

Hi Landen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started as a quilt company. Our crew has a lot of experience in the outdoors and in extreme environments and we wanted to create a quilt that would withstand it all. For your worst days and your everyday. We started with a quilt with a water and flame resistance topper, a wool/cotton blend batting for breathability and antimicrobial properties, and a polartec backing to provide comfort. This has since expanded indoor quilts that are cotton/wool blends and are made for the home as well.

When developing the shop to open up to the public, we wanted to put our other passions on a platform; quality vintage and locally made goods. Today, our favorite part of our business is creating community and directly supporting local artists and makers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This definitely hasn’t been a smooth road but that’s expected with any small business. As we say, it adds patina to the story. Finding the right shop location has been a struggle. We wanted a certain type of retail location. We wanted a shop is that is in an older building that tells a story of it’s own. The first shop we had was in Wedgewood Houston and it was a really great space but once we moved to Marathon Village a lot of pieces fell seamlessly into place and it felt a lot more like the shop’s “home”. It was really scary to make that jump of locations.

There’s been a lot of trial and error with our business as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Landen (Co-owner/founder): Background is in mountain guiding and law enforcement. He is the main curator and inspiration of the brand. When we are looking at a product to prototype or bring into the store, we look at Landen’s EDC (everyday carry items) and his “holy grail” vintage and make informed decisions from how these items have held up for him. For example, we look at his sterling silver jewelry that looks even better once it’s used and scuffed up. Or the loyal Stricklin denim jacket that he uses everyday. Landen is also the quintessential Southern host, he prides himself in creating a welcoming and inviting space to create community and collaboration. Fun fact: his grandma was a food editor at the Nashville banner from the 70’s-90’s and she has written so many articles and taught Landen herself on how to be the best host. We carry that into our shop.

Jess (co-owner/design director): Background is in interior architecture. Jess specializes in fiber arts and design. She does conceptual digital designs, all the way to the final sewn product. She also a (beneficial) squeaky wheel when we are bringing in new products because she’s really picky about the quality of what we stock and also how the product is made.

Trip (General manager): Background is in tech, luxury watch sales, & music business. Trip is our social butterfly, inventory manager, and tech team all wrapped up in one. He does a lot of our creative networking, stays up to date on artists and makers in Nashville, and keeps the systems of Poplar Point running. He and Landen also hand curate our vintage watch collection.

Everything in our store is thoughtfully curated. Every dollar spent in our store actively supports Nashville’s local economy.

What are your plans for the future?
We are currently in the mindset of slow and well thought-out changes. We are slowly developing some collaborations, events, and workshops but will be rolling those out slowly.
