Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Flanigan.
Hi Erin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have had a microphone in my hand and singing and putting on “shows” since I could walk and talk! I made my sweet grandmother endure countless interviews as a child on long summer breaks where I made her ask me, endlessly, what it was like to be “fanous” lol. I begged my parents to let me audition at the School for Creative and Performing Arts at 12 and began my study of Creative writing and vocal music. At 19, my sister bought me my first guitar. I would go onto recieve 8 more guitars as ‘gifts’ from friends and family! I started writing poems and then put them to melodies I would make up on the guitar. I didn’t know what I was doing but I made a promise to myself to not play other’s songs, but to make up my own. 21 years later, after raising 5 children, I finally got my chance!
After losing our home, after a business partner took everything I was 9 months pregnant w my 4th child and was forced out of our house. I gave birth to my daughter, Arabella, by myself, at home, w no Dr’s or nurses and then one month later, packed my family of 6 into an RV a friend had given us and headed to Nashville, Music City, bc Mama had a little recording deal w CenturyMusicGroup!
I got into the studio, in Berry Hill, Soultrain Studios and recorded my 1st demo! By 2022, I had my 1st song on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country Radio on Mother’s Day!! This Mama of 5 did it! I achieved my life long dream of becoming a singer-songwriter!
Between diapers, and nursing and chasing babies I would steal time away to write songs. My children are my greatest creations but I had to keep creating music for me!
After a trip to Los Angeles to record at the beginning of this year, I am now releasing three new songs and am still living my dream of being a recording artist!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Two divorces, raising 5 children, being made homeless, living on campgrounds around Nashville, losing two brothers and my Father at 28! Then, Losing my children to divorce and surviving narcissistic abuse and parental alienation I am still standing. And at 50 years old, I have started singing on Broadway! And continue to release new music! I’d say I have overcome many obstacles and I am proud of that. I now know how strong I truly am!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been writing songs since I was 19 and just recorded new music in Los Angeles w my Producer, Josie Award winner, Brian James McKeever.
I am most proud of my new songs and of the life I’ve survived and the life I continue to build.
I think being a Mother of 5 in this business is rare these days, Although, I look up to those before me like Mother Maybelle and Loretta Lynn. Raising 5 kids and still making music sets me apart and I hope to be an inspiration to other Mama’s out there still holding dreams in their hearts.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think they would be shocked to know all I have endured! And to realize that despite it all I’m still standing!
