Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Miller.
Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been passionate about animals and science for as long as I can remember. After earning my biology degree from Boston University and graduating from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, I spent years building and leading veterinary hospitals with a strong focus on quality medicine, diagnostics, and client education.
Throughout my career, I helped grow several successful veterinary practices, including co-founding a multi-location veterinary company that expanded across multiple states. While I’m proud of those experiences, they ultimately inspired me to create something more personal and community-focused.
That vision became Haven Vet — a locally owned, full-service veterinary hospital designed to feel warm, welcoming, and relationship-centered. My goal was to combine modern veterinary medicine with a more personal experience where pets and people feel truly cared for, supported, and at home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Opening an independent veterinary practice in today’s economy comes with significant challenges, especially with rising costs, inflation, and the financial pressures of starting a small business from the ground up. At the same time, I was also navigating a major personal transition as a newly single mom, balancing the demands of building a business while still being fully present for my daughters.
There were moments that felt overwhelming, but those challenges also strengthened my vision for what I wanted Haven Vet to be — a place built on resilience, compassion, and genuine connection. The experience has taught me a tremendous amount about perseverance, adaptability, and trusting myself, and it has made opening Haven Vet even more meaningful
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Haven Vet is a locally owned, full-service veterinary hospital in the Westhaven area of Franklin focused on combining modern veterinary medicine with a more personal, relationship-centered experience. We offer wellness care, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, digital x-ray, in-house lab work, and house calls, all with an emphasis on low-stress handling and client education.
What sets Haven Vet apart is the atmosphere and philosophy behind the practice. We intentionally designed the hospital to feel warm, calming, and welcoming — more like a living room than a traditional clinical setting — because we believe both pets and people deserve to feel comfortable and cared for. We take the time to educate clients, build long-term relationships, and create individualized care plans rather than practicing “one-size-fits-all” medicine.
We’re especially passionate about preventive care, dentistry, and helping pet owners truly understand their pet’s health so they can make informed decisions with confidence. We’re also proud to be independently and locally owned, which allows us to stay deeply connected to the community and practice medicine in a way that aligns with our values.
More than anything, I want people to know that Haven Vet was built with heart. Our goal is for every client and pet to feel known, supported, and genuinely cared for from the moment they walk through the door.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing people may not realize is that I opened Haven Vet during one of the most personally challenging seasons of my life. While building the practice from the ground up, I was also navigating becoming a newly single mom after divorce. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and veterinary medicine pushed me in ways I never expected, but it also gave me a deeper sense of purpose and resilience. In many ways, Haven Vet was built not just from experience, but from perseverance and heart.
