Hi Tara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I have always shared a love for travel, especially the beach. In 2021, we purchased an investment property along Florida’s beautiful 30A. Later that year, we met a couple who were managing several short-term rentals in Nashville, and we quickly became close friends.
My husband has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and he saw an opportunity to combine our shared passions and expertise. What started as a simple idea soon grew into a partnership, and in May 2022, Kalos Dwellings was started.
While we are incredibly grateful for the growth of our company, one of the aspects we are most proud of is our foster care ministry and mission. Foster care and adoption hold a special place in our family’s heart, and from the very beginning, we wanted Kalos Dwellings to be about more than just hospitality. Our vision was to use the business as a way to serve others by providing complimentary vacations to foster and adoptive families, giving them an opportunity to rest, reconnect, and create lasting memories together.
We are humbled by how God has blessed this journey. What began with a single investment property has grown into a company managing more than 160 active properties today. We remain committed to using those blessings to serve families and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When we first started, we honestly knew very little about property management. However, we were excited by the opportunity and jumped in with a willingness to learn, grow, and build something exceptional. Starting a business comes with its share of responsibility, challenges, and uncertainty, and the journey has certainly not always been smooth. Yet with every obstacle and learning experience, we have gained valuable knowledge, strengthened our team, and continued to grow both personally and professionally. Looking back, those challenges have played a significant role in shaping Kalos Dwellings into the company it is today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
From the very beginning, we wanted Kalos Dwellings to be more than just a property management company. Our goal was to create something different—something that would make a lasting impact on both property owners and guests. We’ve become known for our boutique-style approach to management and hospitality, where every detail is thoughtfully considered and every guest is treated as someone special.
Our desire is for each guest to leave saying it was one of the best vacations they’ve ever had. We believe in creating exceptional, memorable experiences while treating every property as unique and deserving of personalized care. By combining attentive service with a commitment to excellence, we strive to ensure every stay is seamless, comfortable, and unforgettable.
Above all, we are most proud of our mission to give back by providing complimentary vacations to foster and adoptive families. These families pour so much of themselves into caring for vulnerable children, often with little opportunity to rest and recharge. Being able to bless them with time away to make memories together is at the heart of who we are and one of the most meaningful parts of what we do.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
One of the biggest ways we’ve grown our network and built meaningful relationships has been by consistently proving ourselves through the care we provide to both our property owners and guests. We believe that exceptional service, clear communication, and attention to detail speak louder than any marketing strategy. We hold ourselves to high standards of professionalism, integrity, and responsibility, and we’ve worked hard to build a reputation that reflects those values. Over time, that commitment has led to strong word-of-mouth referrals, lasting partnerships, and opportunities to connect with others in the industry who share our passion for excellence.
