Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Drake.
Hi Britney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I discovered purpose in October 2018. I was working at Enterprise car sales and knew it was more meant for me. As I prayed, I was directed to clean out my house. In doing so, I found my old art pieces from childhood, and they were stunning. It was a love lost right there in my closet waiting to be found. I immediately went to art store, got a canvas and when I opened it up to paint a rush came over me. A chill and whisper of art is my calling.
Then came the learning curve, I studied artist i admired and took a few lesson from Youtube. I tried out different techniques and styles, then I was stuck again from all I had learned. So many different ways to express your creativity I never knew was possible, but I just kept going and never gave up on it because I knew it was a God given purpose and it came so easy to me.
After the first 3 months in I started getting commissioned to do pieces.
I found myself at another point where I knew there was even more, and I started incorporating my love for community by hosting sip and paints. in my career so far I’ve had the opportunity to host and help out with big name community events, artist coordination, live painting, vending, and get commissioned for pieces. My next big feet is teaching all that I’ve learned with art and event through Youtube, since that is where I started I want to pass the token to the next great artist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is smooth when you are successful. There is always a problem that will need a solution, but that is just a test to see if you are prepare for more.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m primarily a acrylic artist, but I started to dabble in oils, beads, beans, and anything i can get my hands on. i specialize in black women portraits. I’m most proud of my kids being able to see their mom go for her passions and my community work, getting other artist opportunities to showcase their talents. What sets me apart from other artist is im not tied to one way other the other when it comes to the way i paint or express, and Im a big helper i love to see others win, so anytime i can assist with that whether it be behind the scenes or coming to add a element to their event i love to do it.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
