Rising Stars: Meet Tanaeya Taylor of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanaeya Taylor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my career with a plan to be a songwriter. To be behind songs that I love – and help artists tell their stories. After starting to play writers rounds in Nashville, I noticed that the most common comment I got from the audience, was “you should be an artist, not just a writer.” So I decided…why not try? I started releasing my own music, building my brand, and looking very carefully for a team. Now I’ve released 5 songs, have a team I love, and have lots more songs locked and loaded for this year and into next.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I honestly don’t have much to complain about on this journey – it’s always just felt like what I am meant to be doing – in the way that everything tends to somehow work out. Music is my whole life, and always has been, and now I get to do it as my career. I do find my biggest roadblock has been social media, it can get really frustrating trying to keep up with daily posting, ever-changing algorithms… etc.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m that girl who says the quiet part out loud, with no shame – but via country music. I’m here for the folks who have never quite felt like they fit in anywhere, the ones who have always been called too much. Too loud, too quiet, to outspoken. I blur the pop/country line in a way that is VERY much mine, and I do it unapologetically!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not so much a believer in luck as I am a believer in the universe having my back + knowing that, while working hard toward my goals. Call it whatever you want, but time and time again, the universe has shown me that when i trust it, I get what i want. I like to dream big and watch it all come into play.
