Conversations with Daniel Craig

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Craig.

Hi Daniel , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For more than two decades, my life has been centered around serving others. As a Special Education teacher, I had the privilege of working with students who taught me some of life’s greatest lessons about resilience, patience, and the importance of being seen and heard. Outside of the classroom, I founded Bridge Builders Program, a nonprofit dedicated to removing barriers for students and families through school supply closets, community outreach, and support programs. Those experiences shaped who I am and reinforced my belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.

While working with children, I noticed something that often went unaddressed—many young people struggled to understand and express their emotions. I wanted to create something that could help children navigate those feelings in a way that was relatable, engaging, and empowering. That desire led me to write Lil’ Buddy Gets Upset.

Transitioning from the nonprofit world to becoming an author wasn’t about leaving service behind—it was about finding a new way to serve. Through Lil’ Buddy, I can reach children and families beyond my classroom and community, helping them develop emotional awareness, confidence, and healthy coping skills. What started as a simple idea has grown into a book, a character, and now a movement that encourages meaningful conversations between children, parents, and educators.

Today, my mission remains the same: to help children thrive. Whether through nonprofit work, education, or storytelling, I believe that when we invest in young people, we create stronger communities and brighter futures. Lil’ Buddy is simply the next chapter of that journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been entering the publishing world and understanding the investment it takes to become an author. Between writing, editing, illustrations, printing, marketing, and distribution, there are many costs that people don’t see behind the scenes.

Another challenge is the current landscape of reading. We live in a time where many people prefer audiobooks, social media content, and digital entertainment over traditional books. Selling hardback children’s books can be difficult when there are so many other options competing for attention.

However, I’ve learned that every worthwhile dream comes with obstacles. You have to believe in your mission, stay consistent, and be willing to grind even when the results don’t come immediately. There were moments when I questioned whether it would work, but seeing children connect with Lil’ Buddy, hearing parents share their stories, and watching young readers engage with the book reminded me why I started this journey.

As Kobe Bryant once said, “Great things come from hard work and perseverance. No excuses.” That mindset has carried me through every challenge. Building something meaningful takes time, sacrifice, and relentless effort, but if you stay committed to your purpose, the journey is always worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
an author and storyteller, I specialize in creating children’s books that help young readers navigate emotions, build confidence, and develop important life skills. My debut book, Lil’ Buddy Gets Upset, was inspired by my years as a Special Education teacher and my passion for helping children understand that it’s okay to have big feelings and that there are healthy ways to manage them.

What I’m most proud of is creating a character that children can relate to and learn from. Seeing kids connect with Lil’ Buddy, hearing parents share how the book sparked meaningful conversations at home, and watching educators use it as a teaching tool has been incredibly rewarding.

What sets me apart is that my work is rooted in real-life experience. For over 20 years, I worked directly with students, many of whom faced emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. I don’t just write stories—I create resources that are practical, relatable, and designed to make a positive impact on children’s lives.

My goal has never been simply to sell books. My mission is to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation. Through Lil’ Buddy, I hope to help children understand that their feelings matter, their voices matter, and they have the ability to overcome challenges one step at a time. That’s the legacy I hope to leave through my work.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy isn’t the result—it’s the process.

I love the work. I love the early mornings, the late nights, the sacrifices, and the challenges that come with building something meaningful. Writing Lil’ Buddy wasn’t easy, but neither is anything worth doing.

Happiness comes from knowing I gave everything I had to a purpose bigger than myself. It comes from growth. It comes from pushing through obstacles when most people would quit. It comes from seeing a child connect with a story and knowing that I created something that can impact their life.

Kobe Bryant once said, “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.” That quote speaks directly to my mission. Whether I was in a classroom, leading a nonprofit, or writing children’s books, my goal has always been the same: to inspire others to believe in themselves and reach their full potential.

For me, happiness is knowing that my work is helping create the next generation of leaders, dreamers, and difference-makers.
