Meet Jennifer Percy of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Percy.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In May 2012, my dad spent an afternoon running on a local greenway as he did frequently. He was assaulted by three individuals and their dogs. Trying to get away back to his truck, one of the individuals stabbed my father through the throat, severing his esophagus and trachea. They also cut through both arms and the dogs bit through his fingers, exposing bone throughout his hands. We were told he would not survive and over the next few days, I scoured through all the photos I’d taken of my dad, anticipating a funeral. We are so blessed to say that my father is still with us and through that experience, I learned the value of what a photo can truly mean when it’s all you may have left of someone.

I began Looking Glass Photography later that year and slowly built up to a photographer who does not necessarily specialize but just always keeps in mind that every photograph matters. I do weddings, newborns, families, and seniors mainly. While weddings has been a bit of a backseat in years since Covid, I still am open to capturing a new families’ creation. I am currently pregnant and have a 4, 7, and 9-year-old. Naturally, families are my bread and butter these days. I trust in God’s provision for our family and don’t actively advertise myself too much. What we need is always brought to me and I’m ever so grateful for each session and each life I get to interact with and document.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When Covid hit, all of my brides and grooms had to end their contracts with me and elope. As a result, the wedding portion of my business never fully recovered. I was upset about that for a while because I truly love wedding days, but I trust in what God brings me. And He’s brought me so many sweet babies, toddlers, kids and families!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in families currently, although I have experience with lifestyle newborn sessions, weddings and senior sessions. I am most proud of the compliments I receive in how I interact with children and how fast I work. The men are the most grateful for that! I have soon to be four children of my own and there’s very little that kids will do that will phase me. I do my best to provide a non-judgmental, relaxed atmosphere with my families.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by meaningful impact with people. I’m sure most would define their business’s success based on monetary value only, but I just don’t find the most worth in that. Being featured on your social media profile is immeasurable. What I’ve provided is how people want their lives represented to the world. It’s powerful stuff.
