Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Wilder.
Britt, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Oconee County, Ga. playing sports and hunting/fishing my entire childhood. I always liked to sing and learned to harmonize listening to my mom and grandmother in church. While playing on a showcase baseball team in high school, and trying to get a scholarship I found guitar through a teammate. I pretty quickly I became obsessed and learned to play a few cover songs, which led to the start of writing my own music; So much so that I quit baseball my senior year to start pursuing music. I went to Georgia College and State University for a year and then transferred to MTSU. That’s how I got to TN. Ever since then, I’ve been living here chasing this dream. Saving up to release music and doing so as often as I’m able. I do write for others when given the opportunity and even have cuts with people like ‘Pecos and the Rooftops’ and ‘Jelly Roll’. Ive been through some phases as an artist but these days my personal stuff is very much country that could lean a few different ways depending on the mood. Expect to hear country-rock, traditional country, pop country and more! Ive got a soft spot for the rock influenced songs though. Currently, I’ve got over 20 songs, out with a lot more on the way. I’m about to start dropping all the new stuff that I’ve been working on. Everything is available on all platforms! I’m still a huge outdoorsman and like to fish any chance I get!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Its definitely been a tough road for me. Ive made some mistakes along the way but I’ve learned a lot from them. Navigating this industry can be mentally exhausting and defeating and I’ve struggled with that at times. There’s been a lot of experimenting trying to figure out what my sound is and where I belong, but I’ve recently settled somewhere that I’m really confident in! I’m so excited for the music I have coming up and very proud of what is already out there. I just haven’t had my moment yet, but I’ve got my boots ready to kick the door down as soon as it cracks open!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I’m very proud of my lyrics, and think a lot of them are great, I’m known for my melodies and phrasing. Ill put my hooks up against the best of them. I thank God for that gift and the ability to sharpen my skill. Im completely independent with no manager, label, or publishing company. I think my melodies are very original and have that earworm quality you need for smash hits!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I really just want people to hear my music, and I would love to find my audience! If I could support myself and future family with music/writing full time, that would be a dream come true. I don’t need much to be happy!
