Inspiring Conversations with Courtney Dickey of ChicLikeCourt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Dickey.

Hi Courtney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Fashion has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been interested in personal style and how clothing can be used as a form of self expression. That passion led me to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Fashion Merchandising from Tennessee State University, where I gained knowledge in merchandising, product development, consumer behavior, and the business side of fashion.

As I continued to grow in the industry, I wanted to create something that reflected my own vision and style, which led me to launch ChicLikeCourt. Through ChicLikeCourt, I share my passion for fashion while encouraging people to embrace their individuality and express themselves confidently through their personal style. Building the brand has allowed me to combine creativity with entrepreneurship while developing my voice within the fashion industry.

Today, I continue to grow ChicLikeCourt and pursue opportunities that allow me to expand my knowledge, connect with others through fashion, and inspire confidence through style and self-expression.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I faced was during my senior year of college when I experienced housing instability and had to stay with friends while finishing my degree. It was a difficult time because I was balancing school, preparing for graduation, and figuring out my next steps. Despite those challenges, I stayed focused on my goals and continued working toward my future in fashion. After graduation, I was blessed with my own apartment, which was a major milestone and reminder that perseverance pays off. That experience taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of continuing to push forward even when circumstances are not ideal.

As you know, we’re big fans of ChicLikeCourt . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a fashion designer and seamstress specializing in custom garments, alterations, and one-of-a-kind fashion pieces. My brand is built around creativity, quality craftsmanship, and helping people feel confident in what they wear. Whether I am creating a custom design from scratch or tailoring an existing garment, my goal is always to bring my clients’ vision to life while ensuring the perfect fit.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my ability to provide a personalized experience. I take the time to understand each client’s needs, style, and personality, allowing me to create pieces that are truly unique to them. I believe fashion should be an expression of individuality, not just a trend.

I am especially proud of building a brand that values authenticity, craftsmanship, and customer relationships. Seeing a client light up when they put on a garment that was made specifically for them is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. My work is not just about clothing—it’s about helping people feel confident, empowered, and comfortable in their own style.

I want readers to know that my brand is dedicated to quality, creativity, and exceptional service. Whether you’re looking for custom designs, alterations, or fashion expertise, I strive to provide a professional experience that leaves every client feeling their best. My mission is to create fashion that is both personal and memorable, while continuing to grow as a designer and inspire others through my work.

I am a seamstress and fashion designer specializing in custom garments and alterations. I enjoy helping people bring their vision to life by creating pieces that fit their style, personality, and needs. Whether it’s designing a custom look from scratch or tailoring an existing garment to fit perfectly, I take pride in paying close attention to detail and craftsmanship.

Through my brand, ChicLikeCourt, I have been able to combine creativity with technical sewing skills to create unique pieces that help people feel confident and express themselves through fashion. What I am most proud of is my ability to take an idea and transform it into a finished garment that someone can wear and enjoy.

What sets me apart is my commitment to personalization. I don’t believe fashion is one-size-fits-all, and I enjoy working closely with clients to create pieces that are tailored specifically for them. My background in Fashion Merchandising, combined with my hands on experience as a seamstress and designer, allows me to understand both the creative and business sides of the fashion industry.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is to be patient with the process and trust your growth. In the beginning, it can be easy to compare yourself to others or feel discouraged when things don’t happen as quickly as you hoped. Focus on developing your skills, staying consistent, and learning from every experience.

One thing I wish I knew when I was starting out is that success doesn’t happen overnight. There will be setbacks, mistakes, and challenges, but those experiences help you grow and improve. Don’t be afraid to put your work out there, network with others, and take opportunities even if they feel outside of your comfort zone.

Most importantly, stay true to your vision. Trends will come and go, but authenticity is what helps you stand out. Keep learning, keep creating, and believe in what you bring to the table.
